Ok so i recently got addicted to Cod world at war's nazi zombie map and decided to get myself an xbox to play it. I found a friend selling a cheap used box and a few games i was only slightly interested in and I was off to the races. I found out earlier this week there were extra levels available through xbox live. Since i don't have access to xbox live i went to target and paid $20 for 1600 points and brought my hard drive to a friend who has internet hooked up to his box. I had a silver level live account set up and added the points to it through the xbox and downloaded map pack 2 and map pack 3. Also took the opportunity to download a few free demos for other games I would consider buying and a couple free updates for this or that.

So when I get home and start up my xbox first I check out the demo games i downloaded. Cool stuff, works fine. Then I start up Cod excited to have the new maps for myself. New screen for cod layouts all different and I see the new maps but they are grayed out and I cannot play them whatsoever. Next I take my entire xbox to my friends house and hook it up to internet only to find out that for whatever reason the entire xbox is banned from xbox live.

I didn't buy the thing to play on xbox live and don't care much that it's banned. This has to be a common problem and im super pissed that I am barred from accessing 100% legitimate content on a system in my own home because a previous owner of the box may have done something to be banned from xbox live.

If anyone could point me to a resource that might help me unlock this content I would really appreciate the tip.
If not I will throw myself into the pit of despair I assume getting $20 back from ms would be.

Your problem is that you purchased the COD content on your friends system. It doesn't matter that you used your own hard drive to do it. DLC is tied to the system it was obtained on. Your xbox being banned is an issue but not the main one. If the xbox wasn't banned then you would be able to still access the content as long as the xbox was connected to Live. Ultimately you have wasted $20. You won't get that back from MS and its not going to do you any good to fight for it. I guess the demos aren't tied to the console the way DLC is.

Are you 100% sure about this?  I thought it was tied to your Live Gold account if you had one and you could move that account to a new Xbox and re-download the DLC to it.  Am I mistaken in assuming that?  If this is the case I would have to pass on any further DLC from M$ as that is pretty bogus.  I've paid for all the Borderlands DLC to enjoy and plan on getting a new Xbox soon as mine has the RRoD, of course, so I hope for the sake of these game developers that this is not the case.

You can re-download them on another box with your same gamertag IF that xbox can connect to live to validate the content.  Only one xbox can be setup to be able to play DLC without being connected to live and that is the one you downloaded them on.  They will let you move the "authorized console" with some limitations but I am not sure the details of how that works or if it would work for the OP on a banned box.

So if you get a new Xbox you can redownload and play them just fine as long as you are conencted to live and you might want to look up the details on how to get the one box authroirized to play offline changed.

license transfer wouldn't help him.. he'd have to redownload it on his xbox, so he'd get the files with new license.  Since he's banned from live he can't do that.

Only option is to use his friends xbox, or buy a new one and transfer the content.

I feel your pain.  I have a JTAG'ed console that I use offline exclusively.  I can't get DLC on it, no matter what I do.

of course you can lol.thats the beauty of jtagged consoles..you can copy ANY DLC or XBLA games from your hdd or your friends HDD's and they will play fine on your jtagged console wether your connected to live or not. you can also unlock all trial games to full games on a jtagged xbox.
