How do you check and see if you are banned (without trying to go on live)? Sorry, new to xbox and just recently installed xbreboot.

You would have to try to connect to LIVE with that console. DO NO DO IT. Then you WILL be banned.

for clarification to those who asked the ban does not happen in any way instantaneously.
I had been on live for a few days with my xbreboot xenon and someone elses kv. One day i got on, played some halo 3, got off, came back 2 hours later, tried to sign in and:
"your console has been banned for violations of the terms of use, please do not bitch or attempt to bitch to our employs in India, as they are bitchproof."

Actually i belive they happen pretty quick now, the 24th bans were the first bans for xbr/freeboot consoles i think and now its probably done pretty quick, automatically now that checks are in place. I was on for 6days.

You kids must be quite goddamn stupid to go on XBL with a rebooter, especially with the phrase "DO NOT GO ON XBOX LIVE WITH XBR/FREEBOOT" floating everywhere.

Stop whining if you get banned, it's your own fault for failing to understand the risk and unable to cooperate with basic precautions

Nobodys whining you idiot, everyone who went on live with a modified kernal knew that they would get banned sooner or later, except maybe the odd person that bought their system premodded and knew nothing about it.

I knew id get banned pretty quick, it was either never go on live on the console, or go on live with the console until its taken away from me, reflash and the consoles like its never been on live... wheres the loss in that? a few days of testing  few things, experimenting etc, somthing gained nothing lost.

I know a reason why anyone would connect to live with a hacked console: TITLE UPDATES !

(no, copying updates to partition3/cache does not work - at least for a non JTAG'ed console it doesn't despite updates downloaded from live are also there)

I hope that this was expected by everyone... Seems kinda like a no brainer that it would happen.

Seems like no one is whining though. So they must've seen it coming. Not that it was difficult to see coming.

this is exactly how everyone who got banned the last time should have reacted. It was gonna happen eventually.

These guys just reported the fact that they got banned. bummer. that's it.

I am sure no one has done this.

Install the JTAG wires and then go on live.  Even though you would have to update, would they be able to detect those extra wires and ban you?

I understand I will probably get a response like: "Why would you JTAG your exploitable console and then with out installing a rebooter and then go on live and get an update."

As for the Title Updates, one can use Xorloser's xextool to integrate the .xexp and .dllp files into the original files as long as you install the game to a hard drive an using a loader.  I used that method to update Halo 3.  What I did was clear the cache on my hard drive then on my unmodded xbox proceed to play Halo 3, allow the title update so only the halo 3 update was on the hard drive.  What would be nice is if someone created a file patching GUI that could download the title updates and auto patch them to the appropriate file in the game.

I still use one of those xbox's that can create the ring of death on the game discs.  I have no desire to have to go out an replace my disc because my 360 decides to scratch my discs.  Freeboot and XBReboot will only get better.

I agree that the 2 teams should implement a block to prevent an accidental xbox live sign on.  I know people would complain, but I say when in doubt, noob proof it.

Connecting\updating the console will take away the ability to run homebrew.

'I mean applying an official update will disable the homebrew'

And for those that say they wanna play backups because they wanna keep their discs safe, well, the blame is purely on the owner of the game. I've had my xbox since day 1, and I still have my original copy of PGR3 bought when I got my unit. When it's in the drive, it's safe from the elements, and when i've finished with it, it goes back in the case, and it's safe as houses again. Those that are worried about scratching discs etc stop bitching and look after them better. It's not hard is it. Just don't leave it laying around so kids can pick it up and destroy them.

What games are you playing? Halo 3 takes like an hour to load. Off external USB it takes less than a minute.

Also, just because you keep your disks pristine doesn't mean everyone else HAS to, or that their guaranteed right to back up said game in case an accident occurs is null and void. I posted about this in another thread, but my original copy of Halo 3 would not rip/run correctly because it was so scratched up. Good thing I backed it up earlier so I could just burn a backup.

I would like to see a system implemented though that even 5 years down th..blah blah unrealistic monologue ensues...

Yes because M$ (or any other company rather) would spend extra money on giving out disks instead of getting money from people who scratched up their disks and had to buy new ones.

Gamertag bans are really no big deal. It takes about 2 minutes to backup/uncorrupt your gamertag. Change the name and you're good.

Of course, but there are rarely any updates, and you can decline it if there is one.

Yes you know that, i know that but if you have kids or friends its a differend thing. And i guess thats the whole point.

So I understand that 360s running Freeboot or XBR are getting banned just a few hours/days after signing into Live, instead of in organized ban waves, but what about systems which have only been flashed? Are these being banned in the same way or are they safe till the next ban wave?

An hour to load Halo 3?????
A slight exaggeration there I think. I have Halo 3 and the loading time doesn't bother me in the slightest. I'm more concerned about how the game plays rather than how long it takes to load.
1 vs 100 takes a little while to load, but it's no biggie. Just put up with it. At least it loads.

And yes, you don't HAVE to keep your games in pristine condition. I'm just saying that if you looked after them better, then you wouldn't have to bugger about with backups. However, I can see the logic in doing so in the current climate, which leads me onto the replacements.

The whole point of the replacement system is that it would be good if you could send your scratched up disc back, and get a nice shiny new one back in the post. They would have an original disc back to them, and it wouldn't be any skin off their nose to mint another one off the press.
Yes, as it stands, it's a case of having to go buy another copy, and I'd like to see that stopped. Games aint cheap. And for a media that's open to the elements, it would be nice to have this implemented. I look after my games, but if I dropped it in a bucket of paint stripper going from case to xbox, then I'd be mighty pissed.
