I don't see how it isn't possible to make a stealth dash.  For MS to "detect" something, there has to be a process the Xbox goes through to analyze any differences.  All you really would have to do is dummy any and all functions in the kernel that do anything remotely close to this saying everything is fine, up and running, and totally unmodified.

Here is the issue, MODIFIED GAMES.  This would allow people to cheat online.  MS could probably detect modified games.  Plus they could probably remote check the 2nd stage boot loader and ban or force an update if it is not.  Who knows how many checks MS has in the dash.  I firmly believe that Hombrew 360's should NOT BE ON LIVE mostly because people would cheat online even more than they do now.

Right now I think the rebooter teams need to focus on fixing issues with games like slow loading times and low frame rate issues.  I frequently have the issue where retail games running from the DVD drive (even if installed to the hard drive) take a long time to start up and I just stare at a black screen for over 30 seconds.

For those who didn't know, Microsoft already has a disc replacement program. It isn't free, but it is better than nothing:

They should offer it free since it is a known issue.  They only offer it on Microsoft Titles so MW2 is excluded.

That problem needs to be fixed.

I should also add that this program only applies to 18 xbox games.

I use Skippy Disc. $3.95 per disc and $2.75 for shipping per 5 discs. I know resurfacing is not the same as the replacement program but it works beautifully.

I know a reason why anyone would connect to live with a hacked console: TITLE UPDATES !

(no, copying updates to partition3/cache does not work - at least for a non JTAG'ed console it doesn't despite updates downloaded from live are also there)

u sure? that what digiex say sto do

just curious, to those that got their jtag banned, did it cripple the hdd when it happened? Is it as simple as re-flashing the nand with xbr again or does it even effect the system at all? Only change is banned from Live period? Also would flashing a different keyvault after the ban even boot correctly?

Time to get flamed.

Yeah, if you take a keyvault from another console, decrypt it with the cpu key from that console, then encrypt it with the cpu key from your console, flash it to the banned console, it will become "unbanned" so to say. Since I have a USB SPI I just remake a new XBR image when it happens. I've only have a homebrew console banned once and I *think* it was because I loaded xexloader while on live once. It hasn't been banned since. Just a speculation here, but I am going to guess with the current dash they can't see if you're running a homebrew console unless you run homebrew while connected to live.

As far as the HDD getting crippled, I didn't bother to check and see if it actually crippled the HDD, sorry.

perfect, exactly what I was looking for. Thanks for the response I have a couple spare jtag's and was gonna go online with one of them so I just got a cheap 20gb drive as extra just incase it gets crippled. I dont really care if it gets banned as I have some spare keyvaults from old rrod machines that were unrepairable.

Nobody has answered the question about moving a profile back and fourth on a JTag console to an untouched live console if any profile banning happens?

This is what I would really like to know.

No banning happens, I've been moving a gamertag between a JTAG and a LEGIT console for about 2 weeks now.

You can swap profiles from a Jtag'd box to a Live box, as long as the JTAG'd box is not banned (profile corruption) and you don't edit the profile (change achievements and such), as of now I don't think they are banning for that YET but expect it to happen.

Bottom line, don't be surprised to get banned for swapping a profile over from console to console, you just never know what kind of checks they are doing.

How could the swapping be detected? It seems that there is no way for Microsoft to detect anything like that, at least not with current games.

Perhaps a game could come out in the future that could check for a JTAG or something, then if it is present, put the info in the save file. The next time that user logs into Live, the Gamertag could be banned.

I just can't think of any way it could happen with what is currently out.
