My 54420 Box Got Unbanned?
« Reply #30 on: November 10, 2009, 12:35:00 PM »

I just checked a console that is still in repair and I get the 54420 error.  I have not received the console back and they did extend the warranty as it now say "In Warranty" while before I sent it in, it said "Out of warranty"

My console is out of warranty (red bullet) and I got 54420.  Due the fact that my console is out of warranty can I get this error regulary ?
Standard Warranty†: Expired

If it's modded you are probably flagged, it would allow you to send it in for repair either way if it wasn't flagged.

Alright i see the mistake. Both are very similar ID's but one number difference. Either way, the one that is actually mine gets 54420 on the US website, but the Canda one (i live in Canada) allows me to ahve a repair status.

How do i unregister a console? lol

What does this do?

EDIT:

Now that i acutally look at my 360, my case has a different serial number then when i check in Settings.

The Serial Number on my 360 case registers to an Elite (which i have) and does NOT have the 54420 error.
The Serial number on my 360 settings registers to a pro (which i DO NOT) have and HAS the 54420 error.

IM SO CONFUSED!

What does this do?

Restoring the NAND allows you to install games back onto the HDD.

I've flashed my 360 back to stock and am currently playing Left 4 Dead online, I'll keep this thread updated as to whether or not I get unflagged.

I've flashed my 360 back to stock and am currently playing Left 4 Dead online, I'll keep this thread updated as to whether or not I get unflagged.

I was going to do this myself but I've decided against it for two reasons; 1) the code could mean I'm already banned, which would mean as soon as I connect it up I lose all HD functionality and corrupt all my saves etc., and 2) only two people have had success un54420ing themselves so far - at least one person has been banned in the middle of attempting it.

I've been thinking, could the error code mean that there's been an error in communicating with the box (i.e. it got banned and now the US site can't check the status of it)? Some people are still playing away with that error code, and that's what I find fishy. But then I suppose I haven't heard of any legit 360s getting that error so...

I have 2 360's ,both registered with MS.Both are flashed but only one has been on live. The other is a backup ..just in case. After seeing this thread I checked my warranty status. Both show out of Standard Warranty....the one I've been using online is returning the 54420 error when requesting a repair, the other that has never been on Live shows repair available. So this theory of this error meaning the console has been flagged may have some weight to it.Currently, though, it is still not banned.

Just a little background on how I discovered the 54420 error and why I think it is valid. Sometime last year after MS instigated the 3 year warranty, I tried to get an RROD box repaired and that I didn't realize was banned. Whenever I clicked the Request Repair button on the website, I would get a vague error message that was completely unhelpful. After getting this message repeatedly, at some point I looked up at the URL for the error page and noticed that the returned string actually had "error=ban" inside it.  At that point it finally dawned on me that the console had been hit during an earlier banwave.  I filed this little discovery away and when the current wave hit, I tried the same procedure on a recently modded 1.61 machine and saw a similar error screen. This time, however, the URL said "error=54420". Guessing this was the new code for banned consoles, I posted this as a safe way to check for bannings and immediately people began confirming it.  While it may be true that the 54420 error is a catchall for several issues that give MS an excuse not to fix a console, in most cases it has to be indicative of a ban.

xbox.com seems to having some issues.  Most of the time I am getting blank pages when I try to check my repair status or warranty status.
