Uncorrupt Your Hdd Files After Ban!
« on: November 07, 2009, 05:23:00 PM »

If your console got banned and your profile/game saves got corrupted I may have discovered a workaround

Here is what worked for me:

1. Unplugged the memory card that had my "corrupted" profile on it
2. Turned off console
3. Plugged in hard drive with no profiles on it
4. Turned console back on
5. Recovered my profile from Xbox Live to the hard drive
6. Turned console off
7. Removed hard drive
8. Turned console back on
9. Plugged in memory card with my "corrupt" profile
10. Went to system settings, memory, MU, Gamer Profiles, Corrupted Profile
11. Delete, Delete Profile Only - Make sure you select PROFILE ONLY
12. Turned console off
13. Hooked hard drive back up to console
14. Turned console back on
15. System settings, memory, Hard Drive, Gamer Profiles, Move
16. Moved profile from hard drive to mem card
17. All my game saves now work again on this non banned console

This process should work with a 2nd memory card instead of the hard drive too

Hope this isn't a double post and that someone finds this useful.

Or you could just,
Delete the profile (leave the saves)
Recover the profile on xbox live.

Done and all the saves will work again on your new console.

That is incorrect.  Gamesaves will not work on an unbanned box EVEN with a recovered gamertag if they were accessed on a banned console.  If you have not yet accessed them (i.e. booted the game) on the banned box after being banned, they may still be ok.  If you loaded the game on the banned box first and then try to load the game on the unbanned box, no matter if you recovered your gamertag, that save is corrupted and gone for good unless the method in the original post works.  Simply recovering your gamertag does nothing for corrupted saves.

I don't understand why someone can't PROBE the xbox to see what it does to the savegames when you access them on a banned console. Because then we have a clue of how to reverse them. I personally think that there must be some way with the help of a mod-chip to ignore all ban console/modifying requests.  Seems these new gen consoles are mission impossible almost. The next generation consoles will require a god from the heavens to crack probably, maybe they will come with a small explosive inside to self destruct on modding LOL.

If I format my hard drive after the ban can i install games again in the banned console? Or it still doesn't work? i dont want to buy a new console, and I don't care about live, just want to install the games in the hard drive nothing more....

Thanks

Tried the op and though the saves no longer say that they are corrupt, the saves will not load on my unbanned 360.

When I put my hard drive in my other console it says that I have to do an update when I try and play any game.  I haven't played at all on it since the ban message.

If I do this update is it going to corrupt my drive?

If I recover my gamertag online will my other console get banned as well?

Corrupt your drive = No.

Corrupt your saves = Possibly, but since this is your only chance to keep them you don't have a lot of choice. If you used the saves since being banned then they definitely become lost, but if not you may be able to transfer them.

Ban your other console (by recovering gamertag) = No, this is totally safe.

Please try the update and report back on what happened and whether your saves worked. This is valuable information.

What would be the best method to go about this?

Should I hook the drive up to my PC first and back it up just in case?

Should I delete my profile on the hard drive, connect to Live recover gamertag?

It won't ban my console for sure?? Can it only ban if I put a disc in or can it check my history somehow by me having my hard drive connected to it?

and if I would just keep my old HDD in my old banned console.
Then on my new totally legit unmodified console with a new clean HDD recover my gamertag, i'll only recover my gamertag.

Can i just use that gamertag/ profiel on my new console and use it for playing games (legit cause the console isn't modded).
And when i want to play a backup i'll just play it on my banned console, will i still be able to use my saves and profile.
Or does recovering your gamertag prefents te use of that gamertag on other consoles.

(trying to make sense, don't think i really did though, uuch)

As soon as you use the profile to load up a game on the banned console, that profile will be corrupted.  It will work on the banned box, but when you try to transfer the gamertag back to the unmodded box, it won't load and you will have to recover it again, losing all the achievements you got on the banned box.

Here is an experiment I just did.  After I got banned, I thought my saves would all be corrupted so I loaded up a game to check. I did not get any achievements and I did not create any new saves or overwrite any old saves, just booted a game and loaded a save.  Today, I took my hard drive to a friend's house and hooked it up to an unmodded console. Gamertag corrupt.  So no matter if you got achievements or created new saves on the banned console, if you booted a game period with that profile, it will be corrupted by an unmodded box.

However, after recovering my gamertag I was able to load up a save that had previously been accessed on the banned console a couple months before it got banned but not since being banned and it loaded fine on the unmodded console.  So it seems the saves themselves are only corrupted once you load that game on a banned console after the console knows it's banned.

I went ahead and did the update after backing up my drive.

It didn't seem to affect anything, I can load my profile and my game saves.

Am ok to assume that playing on this XBOX offline with my profile should be ok since I didn't have any corruption?

To sum it up, I got banned, but didn't load any games or do anything with the console after getting the message. Put my hard drive in my other modded console and it kept saying to continue I had to install a security update, when it would boot up or when I would try a game.

I did the security update and it didn't seem to affect anything.  Now I can play games and load my saves with my profile.  So I'm thinking I'm ok to continue with this XBOX offline until I know what to do about going on Live.

Also I went to test the Live connection to see if it was banned and it wanted me to do another update, so I'm assuming it's not banned because it got the update message??

@erod550

So all saves that i haven't loaded since getting banned are fine.
If i would move my HDD to a new console and ofcourse recover my gamertag the saves would be fine and accessible, but once that HDD is move back to the banned console things will get corrupted.

So what i was planning is. ( I orderd a new elite bundle)
I keep my old HDD in my banned console. I'll only recover my gamertag on my new elite console (with new HDD). I'll not transfer saves or anything from the HDD.

I'll use my recovered gamertag for live play.
And on my banned console i'll play bac-ups.

I just don't know for sure if it is possible to use that same profile for live play on one console and for back-up play on my banned console. i think it would be possible since my banned console (ofcourse) won't connect to live.

has anybody tried rehashing and resigning the saves from the banned console? this could be a workaround for corrupt saves once they have been loaded. download a save for the particular game, copy the save you have on your hard drive to a mc, then resign and rehash, then put it on the new hard drive. i don't plan on buying another 360 for awhile, so i can't really test this out. but if someone who is familiar with rehasing and resigning saves may give it a try.
