Question Regarding Saves And Achievements After Banning.

Like many others, I was banned today. My GT is still alive, it's just a console ban. I cannot install to the hard drive, etc.

My question is (as silly as it may be), if I get any achievements on this banned console, will they transfer when I put the hard drive in a new Xbox, and as such be reflected when I first sign into Live on it? I am not familiar with the GT recovery process or anything like that, so please pardon my noobishness.

When you take your gamertag from a banned xbox's harddrive, and put it on an unbanned consoles harddrive, it shows up as Corrupt. So no.

I also had my plans scuppered by this. Was hoping to simply switch the hard drive between banned xbox and Un-banned xbox.

I guess the only way to do this is move the gamertag/profile onto a memory unit and switch that between the two consoles?

I currently have my gamertag on a memory card, and saves on an HD. I'm currently unbanned on my personal console, though my 2nd console and 5 friends have gotten the hammer. I'll report back if I'm banned, and hopefully this method may save our data.

I have a flashed arcade unit, which is not banned and I do not plan to go on live with it ever again and will only play single player games on it. I have pre-ordered a mw2 edition unit, which will be non-modded and will be going on live with it.  Are there any issues with moving the hard drive to the mw2 edition to the arcade unit back and forth just for the sake of getting achievements. I will of course not be playing games before their release. I know no one knows for sure, but I would like people 2cents.

Edit: Nevermind, I just read up on a different thread that had the same idea.

Question Regarding Saves And Achievements After Banning.

I have a launch console that got banned in the very first ban wave.  Since then I played offline on the banned box and online with only retail copies on a separate unbanned box.  A month or two ago, right after the last update before this most recent one, when I was swapping my hard drive from the banned box to the unbanned box, my profile didn't show up. Put the hard drive back on the banned box and it showed up just fine.  Tried to use a memory card to transfer it from one box to the other and it became corrupted and was then not usable on either box.  I had to recover my gamertag on the unbanned box and at that point ALL of my gamesaves became unusable.

I have not tried this again since my 2nd box got banned (it has been modded for over a year but I've only been regularly playing backups on it in the last month or two since all this happened), but I am going to guess the same thing would happen if I tried to put this hard drive on an unbanned box, that my profile would again become corrupted.  I'm sure they're doing this to punish people who don't care about buying a new console and only care about their profile/gamerscore.  To them (I'm one of them) banning the console is only an inconvenience and a shot to the pocketbook, but not a huge deal.  However, it is a big deal when you take away the ability to get achievements and kill all gamesaves, making the player start over with every game they've ever played.

Question Regarding Saves And Achievements After Banning.
« Reply #7 on: November 07, 2009, 01:25:00 PM »

Just wanted to post my experiences. My console was banned and upon moving the hard drive my main profile was corrupted. After deleting the profile (the profile only option) and restoring, my game saves were NOT CORRUPTED. Madden 10 was the only game I had available to test with, but I loaded several different save files and everything loads perfectly.

I am not sure why my saves are working when so many people report theirs to be ruined. The only explanation I can think of is that this xbox live profile was converted to be an xbox live profile from an old offline GT. Possibly the game saves retained the same storage location as the original login and the new xbl GT simply referenced the old location.

Either way, I don't expect this to fix anything for most people, but I thought I would share my experiences for informational purposes only. I still would recommend anyone who has yet to be banned to do everything they can to back up their save games.
