Should.  Unless the "update" is a ban.
Eh fuck it.  *takes the plunge*  No use being scared.  Banned I'm banned.  Not banned, I'm not banned.
And.
I'm not banned.
You know.  If I remember right this 360 didn't work on the repair page back when I had to get the RRoD done way back when anyway.   (a year ago) I had to call the customer support guys instead.
I thought the place was just down or something.

That's good.

Seems this repair check doesn't tell much if banned or not.

Hopefully somebody comes up with another solution.

Wouldn't the safest bet be to call customer service regarding the repair and have them confirm for you whether or not your console is banned by making a repair request with them?

Yea but it's not the most efficient way. Are you going to call them every time you want to play your Xbox?

I was thinking more along the lines of calling when I need to download a major patch or update. Online play is way too dangerous for now.. especially if the online repair request method fails b/c even if it's not 100% accurate, an error does guarantee at the very least you're not safe

Are you guys doing the last step:

3. Check the returned URL. If it contains "Errors.aspx?id=54420" console is banned.

If you get a code other then 54420, then you probably are not banned.

I have that code.

I can connect to live.

Now whether or not that will change sometime between now and the end of the month.

...well...

we'll cross that road (and mourn the loss of hdd usage on the modded 360) when we come to it.

If anybody decides to check wheter they ban or not, pleas test the connection first. I want to know if 'test connection' will cause on failure of HDD and ban message.

Ok so this test isn't 100% guaranteed to work or maybe it doesn't work at all.  What I've seen so far is that only modded consoles are getting this error and unmodded ones don't so maybe consoles that have been flagged are getting the error.  What we still need to know is if the banned consoles are getting the same or any error.

My console is modded, and I did this check earlier, I was able to go through the process completely, even got the e-mail with the shipping label to send the xbox in for repairs.

I take it no one has yet confirmed if you lose HDD functions by testing for a ban via network connection test?

From what I remember, if you do a network test and you are banned, it would fail the last LIVE test and throw up error codes which would let you know. Big question as above though, is if this would then disable HD functions as it does if you were to try and sign in normally.

Does anyone have any more info on this? If you can see that you're banned via a connection test without it triggering the hard drive install block, that would be perfect. I doubt MS would have left that loophole open though, especially as they probably have people reading forums like this and I've seen it mentioned on several, lol, but it would be good if anyone could confirm/deny for sure.

That's exactly what i was thinking .

Can someone banned do the test and see if the received code is the one posted here ? I did today , and the code was another one , but i didn't connect to xbox live to confirm if i was banned or not

If you are banned and do the connection test it will show the banned code and flag your NAND so you cannot use your HDD for installs or use your profile or saves on another box.

Best idea at this point is to unplug, get another 360 for Xbox Live, and play only SP games on the modded box, then switch the HDD to the legit box for XBL.

I heard that if it ask you for an update -that means that you're not banned. In other way the test connection fails and there are no any effects.
But is that true?

I'm doing this. Although are you sure it's safe to use the old harddrive on the new machine? I was planning to start fresh with an elite 120gb, but if I can use my old harddrive I'll buy an arcade instead.
