I believe the majority will hate this "anti-feature." I enjoyed Party chat while it lasted...

As for the people rambling about parenting, to each his own. However, this update should not make a difference as to what kids hear. You can set a child account to chat and hear only with friends on there account.

the children! why wont anybody think of the children!

my 10 year old bdu wearing knucklehead is going to throw a fit when he cant teamspeak anymore while blowing up people on live. but damn it to hell if he hears it when someone calls him peckerface  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rotfl.gif)

seriously i see what theyre trying to do but what stops people from just talking on teh pc. clans wont be bothered and seriously the last thing i want to do when i casually game is talk and even more listen to other peoples smart ass comments. lot of effort for nothing if you ask me.

I understand the motives for the measure.
I mean, all of we have seen many people playing teams but in opposite teams! Telling the friend where the enemy is after dying. That's plain cheating!

But let me tell you one thing MS. Cheaters will always find the way... I they wanna cheat they will. For example using external chat (on PC for example).

This measure is not effective and will piss a lot of people (like me and most of the previous hundred posters)

HERE IS A CONSTRUCTIVE IDEA:

Allow Party Chat, but as soon as you die, you can only communicate with dead people. I mean, like game chat, but limited to your party.

MS YOU HAVE TO REALIZE THAT PARTY CHAT IS A MUST FOR MANY MANY OF THE PLAYERS.

Before it I had the "only friends" global communication option... I guess I'll be back to that if they change the way this works.
That was fine, but party chat is much better.
With only friends option I don't have the option to step out to the game channel to apologize to a teammate that I have killed accidentally for example... avoiding being kill by revengers in the following games....

Please MS rethink the whole thing.

Jur.

I think this has been done to save on bandwidth, because at the moment they have to have 2 chat channels if you like, so i think this move is mainly to save money on upgrading there service to cater for the lag it gets from it, am i wrong ?

Also this wont stop cheaters i have 4 360s so if i wanted to cheat i could use another one to chat on an a lot of kids have more than one xbox, like my nephews have three in there house so they could still cheat if they want to.

I think this is a stupid move from microsoft, as usual its to save money  grr.gif

How about they just disable speccing or limit it. Those who actually use party chat to mess like that can always use skype or teamspeak instead. Now they're only creating another problem.

Why wouldn't they just say: If you are in a party chat, and at least two members of the party are in the same multiplayer lobby, then those two players are forced into game chat until one of the party members leaves.

This would allow people to still talk to their freinds in seperate matches and seperate games, but allow a fair playing field for everyone else

I'm hearing a lot of crying over how IW is designing THEIR game. It is absolutely so easy to understand. They build the game, you play it, or you don't. That's it. If they want to make the game more competitive and less casual, that's their choice to make, and I personally applaud them for it.   I have been saying forever how cheater chat is ruining the balance of competitive play since it was implemented. Complain all you want, IW wont change it.

well, you asked if you're wrong and you are. parties aren't hosted by microsoft. a party is hosted by the person who starts the party. so, microsoft uses no bandwidth for the party feature. consequently, this isn't a move for them to save money. all it is is a switch that allows developers to control when a player can be in party chat or not. so if you're upset, blame infinity ward, not microsoft.

About time M$.  Totally support this move.  Party chat has deminished the social community aspect of Live.  All these people with friend lists 10 miles long who are complaining, I bet you met them through public chat way back when it was the only option.  Otherwise you're in the rare minority.

Now when I want a quick blast and have a few laughs I dont need to rely on my real friends to be logged in.  I enjoy meeting new people.

We all have experienced annoying users trying to greif us, but the exegerations expressed here...LOL, it's like Hitler himself has 30 million clones out there all playing.

Find a crap user?  file a report, mute - Done.  It's not the end of the world.

I hope this is mandatory for all upcoming team muliplayer games, and is patched into already released titles. Natch!

Yeah... Im sorry..
But the "Social community aspect" you speak of was torn to shreds about the time that halo 2 came out.
I mean, Trash typing was full force in PC games.... but once halo 2 came about it sent out deadly waves of stupid to all that used it, and those that were receptive enough ( i mean stupid) turned full disrespectful pieces of garbage.
From then on Live "socializing" was turned into a cesspool of homophobic, racial dribble that numbs my brain every time I hear it. To see how worthlessly selfish, disrespectful and ignorant kids are nowadays makes me hope that 2012 is the end because it wont get any better.
Socializing has mutated into 140 charter limits, minus vowels, punctuation and even changeing the places of letters differently because you want to be cool.

hell, even in Socom on Ps2, or something like KIllzone 1, twisted metal didnt have the amount of bubblescum that populates live.
What the hell is bubblescum?
I have had children threaten my life, threten to come to my house and rape my less then 2 year old daughter because they heard her cry.... How many times I have heard  "I blah blah blah your mother" "Im gonna kill you"  and etc... in my 5 years on live... And what for?  not for yelling, not even for breathing into the mic because I turn mine off unless talking...
For getting a better score then them, for killing them twice in a row... or something equally as stupid. Its BS to make you have to take the time to mute these idiots because all 14 people on my friends list I know personally. So Its nice to be able to bitch about the day to people that arent going to call you gay 18 times in one sentence or a fa**ot because they think it means something other then a bundle of sticks for a fire. (which by the way, is exactly what it means dopies not the way you idiots use it.)

Anyway..
My point is to call Xbox live any type of social community is openly admitting the decline of..... everything "proper" i guess would be it. English has been destroyed, now lets berate everyone to make ourselves feel better.. Oh wait .. that guy made a witty comment and made people laugh at me, Im gonna get all my friends to report him for doing the same exact thing I did only better.

@ above post

Well said  laugh.gif

I wont be in game chat as I have no patience for immaturity, rudeness and young wankers who think they are tough as they hide behind their 360's. Im all for bringing back the 'community' but those of us who have been around know the 'community' as we knew it is gone! Surely there has to be a better way to stop or limit cheating. But as with many things its the good that are punished while the cheaters & pirates just find another way.

Man. It's nowhere near as bad as you 2 guys above are making it out to be.   You've been burnt hard - I'm sorry, but lets not boil down a few bad experiences to the broader playing field.  Hello, I also use live - if it was all like you put it I'd be on board with you.  But as it stands I've had great times with like minded individuals in MP that I've never met.  The muting is an option, and most games have it built in to the leaderboard requiring a single click to get the job done, lets not make a greek tragedy out of it.

EDIT : maybe it's a regional symptom.  I'm in AU and find Australians to be great sports.  Heres hoping M$ mandates gaming universe selection as part of all MP games.  I see it in PS3 games quite often, yet to see an xbox game do the same.

Everyone's forgetting one main point in all this..

as "gold" subscribers we pay to use party chat/private chats, so for them to let a dev take away something we pay yearly for is complete bs IMO

so having party chat and game chat uses none of microsoft's resources ? only the people using the service ?

so if thats true then disabling the extra chat line will cause less lag in games ?

not enough to notice.. like for example ending chat will not get you 5 bars instead of 4..
plus you're still in game channel which is sending and receiving voice as well.
