I understand some people want to plan attack with other team-mates if some of the people are on private chat and can't communicate it sucks for the people that are trying to plan attacks and save team-mates.
If one private party want to challenge another private party, that would be cool feature.
Especially in games that NEED teamwork, I would like to have feature that only gets me in games with everyone with headset.
It should be setting in all mutliplayer games, the option to match people that click "must have headset plugged in " in settings.
People that want to be in party can start private game , right?
So , maybe compromise giving 4-7 a party chat team, and have 2 teams.

This is terrible, I only play online when I know my mates are online so I can have a private chat and a laugh with people I know. I got feed up of having to listen to kids high pitch screaming down the microphone through the whole game and childish swear words constantly like it was the new naughty word they learnt in the playground that day. I know they shouldnt be playing the game but it would be impossible for them to stop them so the next best option is not having to listen to them.

xbox-scene you need a poll for people to just vote so it is easy for all to see what the people want. This would also help fill up some of the blank spaces down the side of the site.

Thats not a bad idea.  2 levels of choice when joining a game :

1) Just For Fun - No teamwork needed, no mic restrictions, chat to your friends in a party, or don't chat at all
2) Serious - All about teamwork, must have a headset to join, team talk only, party chat disabled

That will allow people who wish to play it both ways.

Also from the statement "the private chat feature became a way of telling other players of enemy locations after being killed" implies that this is the killcam that is giving this away and them the info is being passed on over chat.

Simplez dont have KILL CAM, when would you get a change to watch back the video of you being killed anyway.

Why wasn't this incorporated when parties/private chat went live?

If you are in a party, then join a MP game, it should automatically send you to the game channel of the server. The main reason people do not manually do this, is because it takes for ever to navigate to join game chat. Even worse is when the dashboard stops responding. Also everyone that is in the party will have to do it as well. It just doesn't make sense to think people will do this.

This is a good choice, & will bring back the point of playing MP; to win the match. To those that hate when people are annoying on the mic, use the mute player option.

Stupidest thing ever, for one my 9 yr old son is only allowed to play in his party chat during game play, second tonight playing cod5 i had to hear some kid sing into the mic, some person blast music the whole time, a group of friends who decided to use racial slurs thru out the game, score one for ms giving into a big title game like mw2, cant wait to tape the conversations my 9yr old has to hear and call ms and thank them for their smart move

Or you could practice a little real parenting and not let your 9 year old play a game like MW2 to begin with. Makes me sick how many people let their little kids play these games. What happened to the days when parents actually gave a shit about what their kids were seeing in media? You tried to look like a caring parent with this post, but failed miserably.

QUOTE(HaredX @ Nov 2 2009, 08:49 PM) *

I hope this is just a rumor, I don't think even M$ would be stupid enough to do this. There are FAR better ways to discourage cheating than to completely disable private chat all-together. IE only disable private chat if the players in the chat are on separate teams on the same server or disable private chat when a player dies, or only incorporate disabled chat into hardcore servers. Who the hell do these guys have making decisions over there?

It's not a rumor. MW2 has it. I'm confirming it right now even though I'm sure someone already has.

QUOTE(ReturnOfSanta @ Nov 2 2009, 07:00 PM) *

Not all 'M' rated games are rated 'M' for the same reason.

"COD is rated M for depictions of violence, not for language. I grew up on violent movies, and cartoons, but those movies/cartoons also didn't contain depictions of sex and/or foul language (movies may have the occasional word, but usually "lesser" swear words)."

The game Modern Warfare 2 is being rated M for Violence, Gore, and Adult Language.

Also has this guy not played zombies on WAW? Jezus. Not only do I have to make sure my kids aren't in the same room when I'm playing that game, but I have to turn the volume on the TV down as well. The F bomb is dropped constantly.

Why is your 9 year old son playing a rated M game, especially if you don't want him to hear foul language?

You got to be one dumb ass, you sitting on your moms tit doesnt mean that kids dont hear the world shit, wtf is in halo for it to be M the guns, what about cod5, not have to hear some stupid ass group of monkeys talk about how they fucked your mom the night before, and how they are some gang who will gang rape the girl in the chat etc, big difference you fucking pos

I agree with the guy that said there should be like an option for this, in the gametypes. Like a tournmanet mlg style playlist and a regular playlist. I mean really, just because some people either would prefer to talk to strangers to strategize in a match to win, or just don't have friends, doesn't mean other people would like to enjoy playing a video game while socializing with their own friends. Obviously there is two sides of the fence, and I would guess it's just as easy to make both sides happy by doing what was explained earlier.

But like I said earlier, why do you actually want to pay money for the features of xbox live just to have it taken away?

The graphic in the article looks convincing, and I have no reason not to believe the writer, but I anxiously await confirmation or denial from another source.  Where's IGN, Gamespot, and TeamXbox on this story?  Why haven't they done their own piece describing this change?  Surely this is big news, right?

I don't like this.  Not at all.  I have a feeling this kind of forced removal of in-game party chat is aimed directly at Cod4 players like my little group.  We don't want to socialize with the outside world and we do tell each other where our enemies are when we die.  But we suck.  We lose over half of our games and our kill ratio is just about .62.  So we are utterly harmless, right?  Leave us alone, MS and IW !

Okay Im sorry but this has to be said. Just don't play the game if you don't like it. God damn at least we get voice chat. PS3 doesn't come with a mic so no one uses it. Wii is just stupid not that it is coming out on it anyways. No one uses a mic on the pc these days (which is gonna suck anyway because they got rid of custom servers). Just set your mic settings to friends only (if you never get off of party chat then it doesn't matter now does it) and just play with your friends within the game chat. Look at least there giving us the option and Im sure they wouldn't do this if there wasn't so many damn cheating bastards on the last game. Actually I think they would have added this to COD4 if they knew about partys. So just be glad you got that couch your sitting on and the beer in your hand. Because shit is about to get real and you all need to grow up. Okay rant over. I do agree that the idea of developers getting the choice is kinda dumb. I think all ranked games should do this while all player/public games should allow party chat just my 2 cents.

QUOTE(_8ight @ Nov 2 2009, 12:30 AM) View Post

So IW is going to force me to listen to all those little racist shits when I play online?  I'd rather talk to my friends.  Just because I sit in a party with my friends doesn't mean we're cheating.  It means we don't want to listen to others or have others listen to our conversation.  If IW is doing this... I won't be playing online with it much.  I play games online with my friends and if I can't enjoy their company while I play... I won't.

A feck you in advanced MS & IW.

So you think EVERYONE on live in a racist asshole?

I agree that there are people on live who should be fucking shot, but there ARE decent people on live who just want to play and fun while chatting it up. I've met dozens of people on live playing call of duty 4 who are really nice people. They don't insult or anything, they just chat  about everyday stuff and compliment others on their skills. You shouldn't EXPECT people to be mean all the time.

you sound like your kids gonna turn out real good. the game is rated m, underage kids, should not be playing it, period. games like cod, induce aggresion, and e-thug attitudes, hence, not good for a young kid to be listening too. smart parents would realize that, and either not allow the kid to play it online or at all, or at the very least, not to have a chat mic. live is free range, ain't no one getting banned for talking shit.

here's an idea, they have this thing called mute. it's real new, i think they released it like, um, forever ago.
if some kid is singing into the mic or swearing, mute his ass, then he's gone forever. cod4/cod5 both allow you to quickly mute annoying players in game, but you can alway perma-mute with live.

no right thinking parent would allow their 9year old to play cod online, with a headset, and not expect them to hear some messed up shit. if your too lazy, or stupid to monitor your young kids activities while they are online in any fashion, guess what, your a shitty parent.

IF isn't lame, chances are, they will think it through, and probably only disallow party chat on the game modes that it seriously affects, like search and destroy. especially seeing as in the regular game modes like team deathmatch, you can talk to the other players in game from the grave anyways.

QUOTE(xcalixxryderx @ Nov 2 2009, 07:49 PM) View Post

Only thing I need is a mute filter that would allow me to filter anyone under a certain age and i'll be happy.

amen to that.  if i wanna hear whats going on in game, i'll listen to the ingame, if i wann bitch at my mates in my party, i'll do that.

giving the developer control over this feature doesn't mean bye bye private chat, it jsut allows them to disable a feature that has the ability to be taken advantage off.

mw2 isn't gonna be 100% no party chat, i'm sure it will only be disabled for modes like search & destroy.
