Microsoft's group manager of corporate PR ('PR man') David Dennis has played down Michael Pachter's recent statement that the company is looking to double Xbox Live membership fees.

Says Mr Dennis to Matt Peckham at PC World, "I don't foresee a scenario where we're going to double the price of LIVE any time in the next couple (of) months".

" in the next couple (of) months "
this is truly stupid I hope the know if they raise the fees by even a little bit not counting a doubled price there going to lose a crap ton of loyal subscribers some may stay but a substantial amount will be leaving once there current membership runs out and I'm sure a majority will be going to sony ..

I know I will not be going back to gold once my year runs out if they do raise the cost.. and no I wont be on a "pos 3" I might go back to my roots as a pc gamer..

stupid move on micro$oft behalf if you ask me if there trying to gain more market share this is the exact opposite direction they need to be headed if anything they need to lower the cost which will attract more people .
the economy is in shambles raising fees now is suicide.. I may be wrong here but I doubt it.

double xbox live prices?

seems like a stupid idea to me especially in the bad economy etc... i thought they where supposed to draw people TO the service not AWAY from it. because 50 bucks a year aint to bad but if you where to double that then it starts to not look CHEAP (like it's supposed to be) anymore. and at the end of the day it aint like Microsoft actually NEEDS this money.

i mean i could possibly understand a small increase (like say going from 5 bucks a month to maybe 6-7. or the yearly fee of 50 to maybe 60-65) but double-ish the price ALL AT ONCE is just plain out of line.

p.s. good thing i don't use XBox Live and with DOUBLE the price makes me even less likely to try it out.

To be fair though, The Us dollar is roughly half the value that it was 12 months ago so your technically paying half as much as you did last year. Don't believe me, A can of beans use to cost 66 cents now they sell for 110 where i live and thats only been about 4 months. Of course M$ can actually pay for all their servers, users, etc. for under 100000 bucks a month. So its in there best interest not to increase the price of subscription. I don't think they will anyway, the pr guy was just covering his ass and only correct what someone else said.

I may be being slightly optimistic, but what if MS have something up there sleeve? Would you pay more for live it came with more priviledges? Say, free arcade games if you pay a premium subscription, like spotify does with music.
I am of course talking out of my Ar$3, but you never know!  jester.gif

Increasing the Gold fee is a bad move - talk about raping your customers.

Only way I would pay more is if all the content on live was free.

Now I'm a believer, they are going to raise the price.  They will do it to cover the cost of streaming "thousands of 1080P shows and movies".  I can't believe anyone pays Microsoft points to stream tv and movies from them.  The same movies you can get from redbox for 1 dollar.  The same shows you can watch on fancast or the network website.

They could just say, All the 13month ones are now only worth 6months unless they are already applyed to your account.
