Man! This is a long thread!

After reviewing a good 20 pages of the 35 (and up) I still think the mayor point of this ban wave is being missed...

I mean, don't take me wrong, I understand all the people that like to live risky and mod their consoles and all that...

But for legit players I have a worry that I supose many of you might share:

Doesn't anybody else worry about the fact that MS is banning acounts instead of consoles?

I mean, if MS identified some people playing rips and not legit copies the thing to do is to ban the console that is allowing to play backups instead of real xbox disks... but banning the accounts??

Let me tell you a TRUE story. I've been a legit xbox live players since the lauch of xbox 360 in spain back in Nov2005.
I pretty sure that here in Spain many people have their consoles modded as I see them with new games every week... and beleave me, they are not that rich.
From time to time I join some friends to play some party games. I many times carry my profile in a memory unit to have my saved games or play a game they have and I don't.
Some time ago I discovered one of my friends had his console modded, because I noticed I recordable disk when he switched games. He never said that (I guess he didn't want to advertise).
I've never played again there but....
Is MS allowed to ban my account and stole ALL my arcades just because I played with a pirated game in a friends console??

Please, avoid the crap about... if you are stupid and don't know where you put your profile in or any other STD joke...

Where I'm going is that I bought a console, a pay for a xbox live subscription and buy lots of arcade games (love them). I am not a police man to investigate consoles of others....
THEY ARE, AND IF A CONSOLE IS NOT LEGIT, BAN IT.... but live the acounts alone...

Now look at me. I'm just feairng for my acount when I've never moded a console... NOT FARE.

Anyone to share thoughts on this?

there was a post further back where one person didnt get banned but his flat mate using the same console same discs, did. so i would say you are at risk. its a low and nasty thing microsoft are doing, frankly it borders on stealing (copying games not theft this is though, theft is takening something and depriving the owner of it, which is what microsoft is doing)

I read that post. I must clarify that I have not played FM3 so I'm clear this ban wave... I was just making a point.

As a concept, banning acounts seems wrong for me. My account is not modded, the consoles are...

ya best thing just dotn play b4 release date. MS isnt making since, form posts on teh forums at xbox.com

people are claiming they get banned for playing a legit copy from a store that releases early. A Xbox live enforcer replies saying they have good info on what stores break teh street date, and where. And a post said, basically, if u have a receipt, you're safe.

but there another post, a kid got account banned, for playing a legit copy early. he says he got the copy early cause a buddy works at gamestop and let him borrow the floor copy(the one that u can play in store), before they used it. A enforcer replies, saying well thats no really i legit copy, as u didnt buy it legit.

They have no way of knowing how the kid got it b4 the ban, yet shes banned. I think MS is just banning w/o real knowledge. same happened with odst right.

So, who is the greatest thief? Me, that played early ONE game, or microsoft that take from me a thing that I have the rights to use? At least, they must be obligate to let suspended accounts be recovered to play offline.

You agreed to their right to cancel your account at any time for any reason when you signed up for live, read the fine print next time.

Console bans just hinder the user until they commit fraud or sell it, then they get a new console and start over.  So MS hits you this time where it hurts your live account.  Be happy its only a account ban, sure it sucks losing DLC and such, but hey next time maybe you will be more careful.

you only really lose your dlc if its not the box you purchased it on and more people return rrod boxes than they do banned ones as i believe the ratio is a bit higher on the rrod boxes than they are on banned ones.

I'm still curious about Borderlands. Both are said to be retail, but that timestamp differing is throwing me for a loop.

Hi,

I've got two xboxes, one modded and one not. I normally switch the hdd between the two so I can play on live. I don't use any burned games on live only originals. I played forza 3 and got some achievements but these are on the hdd. I haven't connected to live yet so the achievements aren't on my live profile atm.

I'm worried about ms clocking the achievements were on there before release date (even thought I've got it on pre order) so I figure to fix the situation I can buy a new hdd and import my profile from live. I can then take over any saves via a memory card. This way I lose the forza achievements but save all my dlc.

Can anyone see any problem with that?

Cheers

jim0r

I have 3 modified xbox 360s and 1 untouched elite. I just make offline accounts for all the modified xbox 360s to play only on my lan that are on a hub that I unplug from my router. To update I just eject my burned copies and grab my memory stick with my live accounts on it and plug in my hub then go around logging in then I update and the pull memory stick then unplug from my router. I would say if they are banning accounts it would be cheaper to just get another live account and play on that with your burned copies. Personally I would never play a burned game on live. In the case of Forza 3 /Borderlands it isn't so much as why are we getting banned but more like why did you think it wouldn't happen.  If your getting any game before launch wouldn't it be easier to just login with a offline account and try it out. Let me know what you think.

buy the game, and copy it. don't fuck with pirated bullshit.

a quick whats what of this thread:

you are allowed to discuss having been banned for using a pre-release pirated copy of Forza etc.

you are NOT allowed to ask about/compare which pirate releases are good etc. on here. that is a huge no-no.

While the first couple of days of this thread the rules were a little relaxed, they are gonna start to be strictly enforced again, if people begin to try and use this as a "what pirated releases are safe to play on XBL" thread

I like trying to be in the know on the way these things work, what's safe, what isn't.

and that's exactly what this thread is NOT gonna turn into.

Tell your friends to buy and backup their own games like you do...without a kreon drive?

as to what they can do with their copies, play or trash.

I do support what you're saying though, and what most sensible minds in this topic have said though.

We got a little off track.

I'm playing catchup as been out of the news all fortnight...

Anyhow, is this just a suspension of account (i.e. you cannot go on live until <insert date>) or is this a complete ban?

I'm being confused from peoples terminology of the phrase.  A suspension isn't a ban.
