Live Update And 1.51b Firmware Question

I have an Hitachi 78 drive with 1.51b firmware.  Today I tried to log on to Xbox Live for the first time in a while and it wants to install an update first.  Do I need to update my firmware?  

Don't know if this helps, but my dashboard has the blocks and the animated avatar.
