As the title says, I have not been on Live in a couple of years. However, I have been playing my backups during this time. I recently decided I wanted to get back on Live. Before doing so, I checked my backups to see if I had done them properly. I apparently did a poor job on a couple of them as some tools show them as having been done wrong.

My question is: Is there a way to erase any 'tracks' of having played these improper backups I made prior to returning to Live (and using my originals)? I guess a second question would be, does it even matter as long as I did not play my improper backups on Live? Something tells me that deleting saved games is not the answer.  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)  If such a record is kept, might it be on a chip instead?

I have been reading through this forum looking for a similar question, but have not seen one. If nobody really knows, that's a fair enough answer.  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Thanks

No one knows for sure, But most people agree your safe aslong as you dont have them in the drive while the network cable is plugged in. But what does it really matter getting banned would be a good excuse to upgrade to a jasper console.

Bite the bullet and go on Live. Your experience (especially if you get the ban hammer) could help the scene. Also, there is absolutely NOTHING you can do to prevent a ban if it's headed your way, and if you're not using Live, then you may as well be banned anyway. Give it a shot - only using original discs.

I heard people said as long as you use offline profile for your unverified backups and online profile for original games (or good backups), it should be okay.  However, I haven't tested this myself, so do it at your own risk.

If there is a mechanism to ban people for playing backups offline (which there might be) then it doesn't matter what profile you are using. Also, if there is, then it's too late now: whatever data the console recorded from the backups you have played offline is recorded now, and if that's enough to get you banned then you will get banned, at some point, if you connect smile.gif

The suspected mechanism for such a thing is a file called SECDATA.BIN in the NAND filesystem; we don't have a way to clear/erase this at the moment, so it's tough. We also don't have evidence that it *does* do this. It's hard to prove one way or another without a very detailed reverse engineering effort (delayed bans make it hard to prove bans are caused by any particular thing without analysing the code).

If your backups are correctly made and you did them yourself then *currently* they are safe to play, online or offline, until such time as MS change the checks again and come up with something that iXtreme doesn't handle yet.

Thanks for the input, guys. In a very strange way, I feel somewhat excited to see the outcome. It's almost a relief if I do get banned, so I don't have to worry about it anymore.  Not that I ever actually worried about it, but you know what I mean.  wink.gif
