Connect Xbox Live To Two Routers
« on: June 04, 2009, 04:52:00 PM »

I am trying to hook up a second router in my room so that the computer and xbox360 are connected to the internet at the same time.  the Computer works fine but the xbox360 sees no connection at all, the same as if there is no wire connecting the xbox360 to router
This is how it is connected, it is all wired
internet--->Linksys wrt54GL--->Dlink DL604--->xbox360

How should I set my routers and xbox360?
sorry for the blatantly general question

Thanks, Greg

You don't need a second router. Just connect the Xbox directly to the WRT54GL.

Ah. So the link between the two routers is wireless?

Won't work. The remote device needs to be a wireless client bridge, not a router. You could swap the D-Link and the wrt54gl so the D-Link connects to the Internet, then flash the wrt54gl with DD-WRT firmware and set it up as a client bridge with a wireless connection back to the D-Link.

All connections are wired.  The wrt54gl is hooked up to the internet normal, and there is then a wire that goes from the wrt54gl to the DL604 in another room, where the xbox360 and my computer are.
The wrt54gl is a wireless router though and I do have an extra unused router that is similar version to the DL604 but has wireless capability, as the DL604 does not have that capability.
And the wrt54gl is flashed to DDWRT firmware.
Edit: I would think wired is fine, am I right?

So you're using the DL604 as an Ethernet switch. In that case, make sure that you disable DHCP on the DL604.

Make sure you have all of the connections in the LAN ports rather than the WAN port as well.
