I just wanted to know what are the reason that people get banned from xbox live? how can Microsoft know your xbox 360 is flashed and you are playing copies? thanks

they cant tell your actual dvd drive is flashed as they have no way of dumping the firmware but they can tell its been modified by checking the disk to see if its not a 100% copy of the orignal. If its not a 100% copy then they flag your console and ban you when the next ban wave hits. There are programs out such as abgx360 that check backups against a database to make sure the backup is correct and doesnt have any wrong bits.

Okay so lets say the stealth patch and everything is all green.  What about DLC?  Games like FO3 where I have to be logged into live to get the update in order for the DLC to work?

If you're that worried, use the original to get the update. You can then use the backup whilst the console is offline.

The only way to get banned is if MS check the disk and notice something about it is not as it should be. If you made your backup properly and it checks out according to the stealth checks then it's fine *as far as we know* but MS are able to implement new checks any time they like, and it's possible that there is something that could potentially be checked which the current backup procedure does not reproduce. It's also possible that there are still bugs in the iXtreme firmware (like the bug in pre-1.4 that jitters an angle of 359 to 360 which is invalid) which may cause it to give incorrect answers to challenges in some rare circumstances which we've not come across yet.

The majority of people who have been banned up until now were using downloaded copies of games which were not stealthed correctly. Relatively few people have been banned who made all their backups themselves.

Can you play a burned game on a separate account that doesn't sign into live, then sign into live on your main will it detect you have that copied game?

Or can you play on one account that doesn't have live and another account that does and not get banned for the one that doesn't go on.

this thread is old but to answer your question, if u wanna avoid being banned, get two 360s. one for backups and one for retail. no one knows what exactly is causing ppl to get banned.
