This week Microsoft sweetened the deal for those not content with their free Silver-level memberships. Silver members who log into the service today will be greeted with an offer to upgrade their accounts to Gold status for 12 months at the cut rate of $39.99, a $10 savings. Once the promotional period ends, Microsoft notes that the membership will automatically renew with the standard annual rate (currently $49.99).

Through smarter shopping you can already get 12+1 for 38.99....  knock ten bucks off of that, then you've got a deal!!!

Nice offer for all their new customers, stuff existing customers who have been their life blood for years and years though eh...

I'd just like to know why i can obtain a 12 month gold membership from third party dealers around £20 ($30?) cheaper than going direct through Microsoft on the Xbox dashboard.

This clearly does not make any sense  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/grr.gif)  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/grr.gif)  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/grr.gif)  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/grr.gif)

If people were smart they would just buy online, you can get 12 months for $30-40 range.

My local shop does 12 months for £32.99 or 12+1 for £34.99

Does anyone know if the prices affect UK people, also how long does this offer last as my account runs out in 2 days

I bought a 12+1 card back in early January from Wal-Mart online for $38. I think it had $1 shipping. Screwed up thing is that MS still charged my credit card because apparently I put in the activation code a few minutes too late for monthly self renewal. After a couple of nasty phone calls and nearly a month of waiting I had all my credit card info removed and my membership is good through late spring next year.

Does anyone know where to get a 12 Month XBL card for $30 still? I saw them in many stores during January, and I foolishly didn't pickup one then. If anyone knows where to get them now please let me know. :>

Thanks.

P.S. Not that it matters, but MS started selling XBL at this price several days ago. I noticed when I was trying to figure out how to gift MS points.
