I just bought a brand new elite from the shops and the first thing I did was recover my gamer tag, the problem is that when I go to change my membership to gold and select 1 month it just goes to payment option, I was expecting it to offer me a 1 month free gold trial.

I think the free month only applies if you never signed up before. Since your recovering you were or that gamertag was signed up before!

So I buy a new console and I don't get a free trial because I'm already a member?

What about if I sign up with a new gamertag and then change my current gamertag to that name, will that be possible?
