Speaking as someone who just recently ditched satellite, I have bad news for you. You're pretty much screwed.

The latency (ping) on a satellite connection is insanely high, generally in the 500-700 range, sometimes higher. So while its ok for basic websurfing, and even mostly ok for MMO play, things like Xbox Live and fps's just will not work smoothly. It's not the 1.0mbps thats slowing you down, its the latency.

Play World of Warcraft, thats what I did while I was on satellite, and it worked ok, lol
