Ok boys and girls, Xbox LIVE is having a scheduled downtime on Monday, September 29 starting at 12:01am Pacific Time. It will be down for 24 hours as we prepare for the cool new stuff coming your way in the new Xbox experience.

Keep checking back for more information on the goodies we have in store for you this holiday.

*To clarify, Xbox LIVE will be down as will those sections on Xbox.com that rely on the service such as "My Xbox". Also, the forums will be viewable but you won't be able to post in them.

as long as the service gets better, I'm happy.
especially when I'm still in my 1-month gold free trial, instead of the 12month card I have ready here.

I can't wait to try this out.  Even though I may like the current dash more, im all about testing and using new features and such.

We'll never know if we like it until we try out the new interface.

Did you read what they were commenting on

They are simply saying they are looking forward to the changes that this downtime prepares for.

Yes i read it all and the members said "i cant wait to try this out" and this is scheduled downtime.
What they said made it look like they were expecting the new dash update on the 29th

To clarify, direct from majornelson.com:

"Xbox Live Service Maintenance

On Monday, 9/29/2008 from 12:01 AM PST for up to 24 hours, Xbox Live will be offline for maintenance. As a result, Xbox LIVE and the ‘My Xbox’ section of Xbox.com will be unavailable, and the Xbox forums will be in read only mode (you won’t be able to post.) The remainder of Xbox.com will be available with limited interruptions.

This service maintenance is in preparation for the new Xbox experience which will be available later this fall.

Let me reiterate: When the service returns, you will not have any new features and you will not have the new Xbox experience update. That will happen later this Fall.

As usual, I’ll make a post and update my Twitter when the service returns."

Hopefully this means the update isn't far off. Although, when they say "information on the goodies we have in store for you this holiday" it makes me wonder if it'll actually be nearer December before the update is released (like last year).

24 hours?! That is some unprofessional update management.
Shouldn't they have some kind of cluster to gradually switch over from an old version to a new one?

i would agree on the transition concerns.  i assume that the demand on the Xbox Live servers is such that a gradual switch is not technically possible without losing some customers.

and yes, i, too, am excited about the forthcoming updates...at least to try them out...

Oh yeah, I be extremely surprised (not to mention grateful) if this was out before December.

I guess in MS world Fall = anything before January.

Don't you guys know what this is really about? It will take 24 hours to register all the modded 360 mac addresses into the Live servers so they can throw the largest ban hammer of all time on September 30th.

JOKING guys just thought I would get this in before someone else does. lol  pop.gif
