Apparently thats a bit to big of a word for you cause it doesn't apply to either MS or Live.

if every online gaming service charged a fee then your statement would hold some water.but seeing how live is the ONLY one that charges anything it shows someone is being greedy.and plz don't come with that LIVE is so much better then PSN and Nintendos online service.yes it is hands down everyday of the week, but its been out about 5times longer and was created by a company that was bulit on computers and the internet.

I could understand the fee if at some part of the "Charge" chain we got a nice discount, but in fact its the opposite.we are over charged at every stop.the system is $300+,the games are $60+tax,Live $50,a extra controller $50,a upgraded HDD $120+,a memory card $40,a face plate $20,most XBLA games are $10 and nearly all suck,to rent a movie is more then blockbuster,to buy a tv "dvd"show is more then you'll pay at ANY store,DLC is WILDLY over priced, wireless apt $100+ and then to beat all of that they tell you how and where you can use all of this content with their dam DRM and bans..

yet when some customers comment "GIVE US A BREAK" we get the "THE NEXT GEN IS SO EXPENSIVE TO DEV GAMES FOR"..give me a dam break, technology gets cheaper not the other way around like with MS.look at the price of PC equipment from 3 years ago and they are 1/8-1/4 the price, yet a console and its acc's with a much larger install base over the same time span has yet to drop even 1/8 of its price.thats price gouging my friend and its good for them but bad for us.

ive been a hardcore gamer since 85 and im almost to the point of becoming a none gamer because of the price gouging and the lack of quality in both the systems and games. you know why Nintendo's wii is doing so well?because its cheap and doesn't mess around with all the ticky tack BS that MS is doing with the 360.you know why the ps3 is doing so poorly?because its over priced and 9 out of every 10 games can be played on a cheaper system.well that is until you start diving into live and the acc's.

i for one hardly ever play on live anymore and the number one reason is matchmaking.i have 3 kids and work from home so i cant just sit on the couch and play games all day like most of the live geeks so my skills arent always up to par,yet when i log onto a MP game over live im consistently over matched because i have no chance against someone that has been playing the game 12hr a day for over a week when ive only logged 2 hr's myself.

that in and of itself shows that live is nothing more then bare bones connect me to the guys in Cal and FL type of service and its not worth $4mo.i tell you a better way of running live now that it has all of these moves and DLC crap. make the ppl that want to use that part of live pay like everyone does now for gold, yet ppl like me that just want to play online every now and then and talk with my friends should have that for free.after all doesn't the 1k i just spent on a system and a few games and acc's count for something?

Live cards work in any region but its not well known
Microsoft Points only work in the region they came from

alot of people buy from ebay and such

i got my kid a 12+1 card (we dont get them here) for £21 $42
here its $80 for 12

my account's paid up until 2011
i got 5 xbox 1 card's for £5 each when they where selling them off in 2006
which ofc work on 360's

Use system link... if the game doesn't support it that's not M$ telling you how the game should be used.

I have a question. To the people in EU. Can you buy a card from the U.S.A. and use it? I mean if the cards are region locked that'd be typical M$. If they aren't I'd be willing to buy cards and give people the numbers for near free. If anyone knows, please tell me. I mean if you can get a live card for $50 or £40, pay me $60 and get it cheaper! 59.99€ is just crazy to think about. I wouldn't pay. Even then, could you make an account for a different region and use their card?? I think that might be the best shot at working.

BTW, club.live used to have Live subscription cards. So you could play games and earn a year of Live for "free".
So _technically_ xbox live could be considered free by the nitpicky people out there. (not me) M$ is giving you a way to get live for free. The prizes rotate, so anyone looking now will have to wait.

I always thought on PS2, companies like EA were charging for their online gaming? and Isn't there going to be a paid service on PSN?? Why didn't the article bring up that point? Face it, All Three Companies are going to charge you to play online.

Now what's ridiculous is WoW. Isn't it like $15 a month?? And that's ONE game.

I personally like the advertising because it is mostly stuff I like. Like letting me know when new rockband stuff comes out or new demos, etc. Its not like they are advertising for a penis growth pill or anything........

muhaha.gif  laugh.gif  laugh.gif  laugh.gif

first of i love xbox live. i Don´t have a account anymore.
but i find the price´'s is OK.

BUT this is the funny part.
if you don´'t want to pay for live and still want live, there is only one thing you can do.

AND YES ITS FREE. but its a lot of work  laugh.gif

1. create a new hotmail live account
2. make a new user account on your xbox. Use the new email adres.
3 goto your pc check your mail.
4. find a mail saying that you get 1 month live. follow the email.
5. play 1 month for free.
6. goto 1. and start over.

This will work but its a lot of work.
and by the end of the year you will have 12 account´s on your machine, if you don't delete them  laugh.gif
second you will have to tell all your friends that you got a new user name. and your achivements will be lost.
you got to start over every game. bye bye halo custom armer.
But hey you can play online for free.

Greetz.

It's not free, because millions of people keep paying for it.

Pretty simple....

i'm sick and tired of these articles. stfu and pay for it if you want it or if you don't want it, don't pay for it. it can't be any more simple than that.

here's a little story that occured a couple days ago:
i get an IM from a friend, "yo man i just bought a ps3"
i reply, "oh that's cool, what do you like about it"
his reply, "well, it has bluray and the online is free. how much is xbox live though?"
i reply, "$50/yr"
his reply, "oh that isn't too bad, i could do that"

he just bought a ps3 and he didn't even know how much live costs, ridiculous! you'd think you would look at the competition before you dropped money on a new console.

It would be great if the service was free.  It is not, and I don't see it going that route for a long time.

Because some people on here are kids and dont have jobs and mommy and daddy have to pay for it and prob tell them its to expensive.

If we stopped paying for live, the quality of everything would drop to BELOW what PSN is now, don't you all get it?

If its free, MILLIONS more people would hop on it, and it would be the type of people we don't want, i.e. phishers, dumb racist kids, terrorists (j/k)

Live’s best asset is that it allows even small developers to support online play - the value of which can’t possibly be denied. Without it, we’d never see online play in small-budget XBLA titles or even marginalised full-price games.

I was disappointed to have NO online multiplayer options for both the Bourne Conspiracy and Ninja Gaiden II. While this subscription fee may help a dev decision whether or not to include a multiplayer mode, it certainly didn't work for those games, among others.

i am so tired of people that know know nothing about entrepreneurship bitching about fees and why they should get shit for free. open your own business for one month. see how many "thank you gifts" and free things you give out. its a luxury you morons. if pc and wii are free, pack your bags and ditch the xbox ship... it's not like they are charging you double for health insurance or taxing the food your eat. f*ing grow up.   rolleyes.gif   muhaha.gif you can get live on amazon for 35$ for 12 months. that's 2.90 a month. wow... they are really ripping people off.  bunch of children and irresponsible adults i swear to god...

You really have no clue what we've been bitching about. It's not about breaking the bank; it's that they don't have a legitimate reason to charge us.
  • Still have advertising shoved in your face
  • NO dedicated servers, while free PSN has many (as well as P2P, but it's still free)
Do you give bums money (I do sometimes)? If you said 'no', what if the bum told you "You can afford some change" followed by "bunch of children and irresponsible adults i swear to god..."

If you have ever played on PS3 PSN network you wont mind paying for XBOX live.

Although PSN is free, most games dont work properly on launch online. Just look at GTA4 and COD4. Also no ingame dash, no in game messaging, no voice, a no proper integrated store.

With Xbox live you know it will just work smile.gif

You must be grossly misinformed. If you've ever played GTA4 (on either system), you'd notice your friends list is already integrated into your phone. The 'HUD' interface (or whatever you prefer to call it) is a bit superferlous in a game like that. COD4 also has the friends list integrated. I love the party mode & clan support.

As for the PS store, it's much easier for me to find what I'm looking for there than it is in XBL Marketplace.

C'mon, BoNg.... you know that plenty of us who feel this way are gainfully employed. I've seen a few of your fellow moderators (who I know to be working, productive members of their respective societies) even mention the points I have... That's simply uncalled for.

That makes ZERO sense.

It's already terrible and it costs money.

You pay to play online, which is free on PC, PS3 and Wii, PLUS you pay to get awful ads shoved in your face. Glad I stopped paying for XBL, what a joke.

I'd rather spend that $50 on a game.

Do you mean phishers like the ones that apparently jacked some LIVE accounts a few months back (news is archived here, somewhere), or racist kids like the ones who call me 'nigger' almost every night? Let's not forget about Live being down on major holidays and around massively popular game release dates.... how can it really get worse?

Thats what I was thinking. Me and my kids maybe play online 1-2 times a month and I still renew it every year. I am a huge PC gamer and would pay $100 for online service in games like live has. I hate playing online games and half the guys have team speak and slaughter the other people they play. Why do PC games not have com included in the game? secondly how many times have you spent hours trying to find a server to play on only to be kicked because your better than the 16 year old running it! There is NO service online even close to XBL!!! You can turn on your xbox and be playing online in a match in 10 min with players that are close to your skill level.

So,are you telling me it costs almost three times more to Square Enix to host FFXI than MS to host ALL the games that are live enabled?Ok then...

Yes, because FFXI uses dedicated servers, and MS doesn't provide dedicated servers, as XBL is p2p based.

XBL is overrated, its not worth the $50.
I've been on live for like 4 years now and thats mostly because M$ keeps charging my card and I am to lazy to call them up and cancel but no more.
most games I want to play online will be on PS3 also no point in playing with kids that keep on screaming in the mic when they lose and having to pay for that experience,
