Grand Theft Auto IV's robust online multiplayer features will drive Xbox Live memberships, Microsoft said Thursday.

"GTA is unique because it appeals to such a large audience," Xbox 360 group product manager Aaron Greenberg told Reuters. "It will likely be the best-selling game launched all year and we expect it will drive a lot of new members to Xbox Live."

I bought the PS3 AND 360 version of this game. I love it and think it is one hell of a good game.

But even I am getting a little tired of all this hype. I am sure (HOPE) that there are other even better games to come out yet this year.

You bought... both?... why?

and yeah it's getting a little tiresome, but whatever - at least it wasn't as annoying as the halo hype

I just bought this game for xbox today. Had to buy xbox too. I also have the ps3 version. I bought an elite and gta iv today because I have a couple of friends who play on xbox live and I want to be able to cap their arses. Otherwise I would have no need for an xbox, i prefer ps3. No cross platform online play is why you would buy both. When I get home from touring I will be able to test them side by side to see which is better. I can already tell the lack of hard drive use is affecting this game on xbox. But I'm not to judge until I see both. All in all I'm looking forward to playing this game online and help try to crash the live servers.

Robust Online Multiplayer ?  Obviously the PR machine that cooked this up hasn't actually played a few multiplayer games. (Aside note, I played my first two online games, and heard 'ni**er' about 5000 times)

Its a FANTASTIC single player game. No doubt about it. But, the multi need some serious work! Surprising since the game was delay so much. COD4 and H3's multi are years ahead of this game. I suspect the multiplayer will not have any real longevity (as is).

Also, 'GTA is unique because it appeals to such a large audience'..... WTF ?  They realize that the nature of the game automatically (is supposed to) exclude anyone under 17. I bet that's a really large part of the console's target audience. This game appeals to people because its FUN (and Hyped), it is not UNIQUE in that respect. H3 was UNIQUE because of its audience.

Do these PR people even read what they type ?
