Xbox Live Setup Problems
« on: March 28, 2008, 03:58:00 PM »

Hi
I am having some problems trying to get xbox360 live set up for the first time. I have a cable connected from the ethernet port on my xbox360 to the ethernet port on my pc, it is setting up the LAN on my pc that I am having the problems with. I have been following the steps on this page http://www.xbox.com/en-US/live/connect/ics_xp.htm, the part that I am  stuck at is where it says "Right-click the connection that you use to connect to the Internet. (You may see multiple connections listed, depending on your network.), On the shortcut menu, click Properties and then click the Advanced tab., Below Internet Connection Sharing, click the Allow other network users to connect through this computer's Internet connection check box.". When I right click on the connection that I use to connect to the internet with, click properties then click advanced tab...rather than getting internet connection sharing options etc, I simply get this... (IMG:http://img407.imageshack.us/img407/2874/networkboxjf8.png)

and also..as you can see there are 5 tabs rather than 3.

If someone could help me out with this that would be much appreciated.

Thanks

p.s. here are all of my network connections...

It may be trying to reconcile the Xbox 360's IP address. I am not at my 360 now but if you can, choose to get an IP address automatically in the 360's network setup.

Take a look at this site, it is older but may have some good hints.
I keep thinking that if you connect from one ethernet card (360) to another (PC), that you need a crossover cable.

A crossover cable is $10-15 so I am thinking if you need one, why not get a network switch like I suggested above and avoid any lag -ICS can cause quite a bit of lag when gaming online.

Then you would have MODEM/ROUTER/GATEWAY-------> Network switch ------->PC
(and another cable directly to the Xbox)

                                                                                                |
                                                                                               V
                                                                                            Xbox 360

I have not bought an ethernet switch which has 5 ethernet ports but i am not sure how to connect my modem to it as my modem connects to my pc through usb rather than ethernet.

p.s. it is a crossover cable that is connected from my xbox to pc.
