There are a few ways to get the dash update, but there is no way to get the media update onto your banned box to watch divx movies.

well you can get the dashboard update from xbox.com

To get the codec you need a unbanned console (i.e friends)

if they already have the latest dashboard update and have set up to stream movies from the 360

when they go to play the video with your hard drive in it will ask for the codec to be download

download it and install it and thats it.

i heard there is way of dumping it to the 360's hard drive in a certain folder but not sure how that is done.

This doesn't work because the codec is like Arcade games and tied to your console.  If you are banned you can not play Divx/Xvid. Period.
