I think for once, that Micro$oft has takin the right steps.(allthough its just to protect their asses)

online play may change your game expirience.

its been said before, but for crying out loud....MUTE!  everyone on LIVE has ALWAYS had this option.

and if the kid is so insecure that being called whatever while playing online, he shouldnt be playing online.

I let my ten year old play online "occasionally", but I have the voice coming out through the speakers so I can hear what is said, he is ten, so I take neccesary precautions... and we have never really had any problems. (most of the times he has played, it was with people on my freinds list but not always)

but I think 10 complaints, is almost too strict, but it keeps people legit unless they are playing on a random disposable gamertag.

Fuck Dr.Phil and him trying to make a buck off this!
Dr. Phil the fat fuck, he has one of the best selling diet books in the country...only in America.

*edit*but I totally agree that if black people dont wanna hear white people say the word, they shouldnt use it so often.  N this, and N that...I mean WTF?

its not like white people go around callin each other cracker, or honkey.

but in this kids defense, it sounds as if he is heavily sheltered, so he probably dont use the word himself.

i always get so mad when theres some white nerdy kids saying w/e racist things they can think of whether black dudes are in the room or not. on a side note if someone says there going to let there little kid play the next few games or that I'm on speaker I'll usually cut my foul language and trash talking to down to none. on the other hand is some 8 yo is talking shit I'm going to rip on him until he leaves or the live servers go down.

i wonder how the people on live found out that the kid was black? is it possible that the kid was using the n word  himself? or talking ebonics? (no offence anyone)

yeah... you know what... I exercise the mute button a lot. Between being singled out because I'm from a certain country, hearing other races getting shit on, or basically being call a cunt because some n00b team got pwned.

Plain and simple... ignorant people piss me off. It's a shame to see this crap on LIVE since we're all supposed to be there for fun.

This Dr. Phil show pisses me off because it paints a negative picture. Few apples spoil the bunch. There are a lot of mature people on LIVE... let's exercise our right to get an abusive player kicked off LIVE by using the rating system more vigilantly.

Another possibility is that he took particular offense at racist abuse aimed at blacks. Just call everyone 'nigger', and see who makes a target of themselves.

it's only personal experience, but i have seen a considerable decrease in racism on XBL since i quit playing H2 after the release of H3.  sure there is still quite a bit of cursing but racial comments have really been decreased from what i have seen.

however, i do spend more time playing with friends around the US and we use chat, which completely isolates us from others.  i will report for racism or blatantly just repeating curse words, never really thought that did much overall, but it does make them an "avoided" player.  and the mute option is great.

he is justified for his fear, especially with his kids, as anonymity really causes some people to behave in very inappropriate ways.  you should never threaten anyone's life ever...period.

I must say that the Racism talk on XBL is definately there and not getting better but I also must say that I have heard it coming from African Americans directed to people of other backgrounds just as much.

I have even had it directed to me being called a cracker and beinf told that he was gonna " Rape my mommy ,my sister, mydaddy and hell I'll even rape your grand daddy"

I also here people getting called horrible things for being jewish aswell as see people using Jew as there " Clan Name" and constantly ripping on them saying jew this and jew that.

Those people are simply idiots and should be kicked off of Xbox Live after a certain # of complaints are filed on them.

The very first thing I do is find out the gametag of the racist jerk and Avoid that player !
The second thing I do is select to mute that player!
The third thing I do is file a complaint both from the X-Box and online at www.Xbox.com where i can give a little more detail about there actions.

Plain and simple this stuff needs to stop end of story. grr.gif

I still think blacks shouldn't get away with the N word in songs and stuff..It's easy to interpret the wrong way.

The most intelligent thing i've seen posted in this discussion. The N word is used so often today in popular culture that you can't even begin to expect children to understand how demeaning it can be to a certain group of people.

I use Xlink-Kai, but the racism is there too.  It doesn't realy bother me, but people should not have to put up with that.

Lets pretend you are in best buy, and some guy (doesn't matter what race he is) starts shouting threatning and racist  stuff, security will through him out in seconds.  Not sure why it is any different on XBL.  There realy should be a team set up to deal with this kind of behaviour, and somehow  advertise it so people know that there is a serious risk of being banned for it.

Well I do hear the N word a lot and usually by little kids. For the most part if they are in my crew when we are playing and it gets bad I will tell them to calm down, but on the same note if its late at night and I have been drinking and some guy stats talking crap and calling me a little white boy or something, I have thrown out this that and the other thing, and usually the most offensive thing I can come up with in my drunken state.

If its going to teach little brats not to use the N word so much, ban them for a day or two. But Trash talking is part of the game so they better use damn good judgment if they ban for a day or two, I don't want to see a Guest Moderator of Al Sharpton on XBOX Live because I don't think there will be any players left.

Are they just going to check for racism against blacks or are they going total PC. I admit to trash talking the French when I am playing COD4, but nobody likes the French, for that matter other than Americans no one really likes Americans that much. It's just trash talk , I am personally happy that they get to play COD4, it's probably the closest they will ever get to fighting in a war, but trash talking is part of the game, especially when you can't understand a damn thing the Frogs are saying.

I think Dr. Phil just wanted to find something since he got crap for the Britany thing and with 10 mil users he figured he should have an audience.

I have friends at work that want to play and ask for my gamer tag, and I tell them that some of the people that I play with might throw out some slurs here and there, and everyone has always said, thats nothing I hear that crap all the time playing, it doesn't phase me at all. So if everyone just gets desensitized to a word it loses it's meaning.

Because as a community we ignore it. The option is there to just kick people in most games and for the most part I never see it. Someone will boot a glitcher before they boot someone for using racial slurs.

Every religion, nationality, gender, orientation, and political view has been verbally harassed over XBL. To say that it's only THIS group or THAT group that faces harassment is absolutely wrong.

An idea for Microsoft to think about: be able to limit an account to hear only people who have a good rep, like someone has too many complaints filed against them for voice communications.

Fact is, if youre playing an M rated game online, especially a violent one, its likely people online arent going to be nice all the time.
