Thought when you get banned, that they ban the console not the gamertag.  Friend of mine got banned back in November of this year for having his console modded.  He had confirmed it with the rep.  He bought a new Xbox, tried to recover his gamertag, and was having problems.  He called XBL support, and they told him that his whole account was banned, and that he would have to get a new gamertag.  

Is this something new, or have they been doing it this way for awhile now?

Q: If I was banned can I take my Gamertag onto a new Xbox 360?
A: Yes you can, only your console was banned not the account(s) on it.

I guess they just changed it recently, maybe.  The guy that got banned said that MS banned him, not XBL, which didn't make any sense, since their the same.

Think that if you call them and Admit what you were doing they will ban the GT.
Though that is kinda strange.. B/c it use to be just the consoles..

Firmware flash ban only bans the console.
Hundreds of people here have bought a new console and recovered their GT to that console.
 GT bans are put in place for offensive gamer tag names and such, not usually for firmware flashing but who knows what they may do. In a fight they will pick up whatever weapon they feel will do some destruction. They seem to be starting to please themselves on the punishments and also on who gets unbanned

with the recent wave of bans, any one want to comment if their whole account was banned or just the console? I'm curious, if they just isolated him out,  or something.

Btw, he never admitted anything, he playd dumb as he could, which wasn't very hard for him if you knew him.
