Boot, Boot, Frag - Did All Initial Troubleshooting
« on: January 18, 2005, 10:20:00 AM »

Further investigation into some really old posts tells me that the problem could be the MCPX chip.

Does anyone know how to test the MCPX to see if it is faulty?

NEW REPAIR THEORY, looking for someone to punch holes in it

Here's the thought, the HDD and the EEPROM are matched, and the HDD is locked so I can play on Live.  Right now, everything is useless because the MB is broken.

If I got a replacement MB, v1.0, 1.1 or 1.2, it should be compatible with my modchip (Xecuter2 Lite) and the PSU and the rest of the xbox.

Provided the EEPROM is okay on the older motherboard, I could pull the EEPROM off, and put it in the new MB with the HDD.

HDD should unlock with the old EEPROM, and I shouldn't get banned from Live because of a HDD size change.

Any thoughts?

Yes, replacing the eeprom located on the new motherboard with the old one should work fine, provided that the old eeprom is still working.  You will be able to unlock your hard drive if you even need to, and you should be able to play on xbox live without MS knowing that anything has changed.

I wonder how easy it is to remove and replace an eeprom chip though?  I've never done it before.  I wonder if there are any tutorials on it?

anyways... good luck if you do decide to attempt it.

I got the idea from this tut:

It doesn't seem too hard, although, the right tools are definitely required.  And I do have those and I'm willing to try.

Suffering from extreme Halo2 withdrawl.
