Rrod Repaired Box Can't Connect To Live
« on: November 23, 2007, 04:34:00 AM »

My original November 2005 360 finally succumbed to the RRoD, so I sent it off to be repaired (UK repair centre). 3 weeks later, I got my box back with a new motherboard and DVD drive (a BenQ, was originally a Hitachi). I'm not sure if the serial number has changed (really wish I'd taken a note of it now), but it's definitely the same physical unit - i.e. they've not sent me a new one. However, when I'm trying to connect to XBL I get an error code:

W: 0000-0021
X: 0000-0000
Y: 00C2-0380
Z: 0000-0000

Anyone any idea what these numbers mean? Hope I've not been sent a banned box ...  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)

Edit: and yes, I'm a tit for the typo in the subject title  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

I called support and gave them all the details. Chap on the phone was stumped and has escalated it, I should get a call back. I'll post back here with my progress just in case anyone gets the same error in future.

That's not a ban error code, that's for sure.  My guess would be the ethernet may be messed up on it.  Do you have a ISB wireless adapter?  You could maybe try that and see if you can get a connection that way.

Actually, I'm using the USB Wireless adapter. I'll try running an Ethernet cable to it tomorrow and see if it makes any difference - thanks for the suggestion, I'll let you know.

If the Ethernet solution works, did you already reconfigure the wireless adaptor again on your 360? Has your WEP/WPA etc key changed at all during the outage?

Afraid an Ethernet connection does exactly the same - only small difference is the W code, which changes to 0000-000B, which I presume reflects the different NIC being used.

MS didn't phone back yesterday (what a surprise), so I'll wait until Monday before getting back onto them. Interestingly, I've seen a few other posts on other forums with the same problem - previously OK boxes being unable to connect after a motherboard replacement. Wonder if MS forgot to "re-key" something after repairing?

Ive had exactly the same problem.  Mobo has been changed as has the drive.  After a few days of arguing they have told me that its not a banned console but will have to send it back for repair again.

Theyre on 25 working days now.  Things must be going well for them smile.gif

Well I just got my box back from Microsoft after an RRoD and I have exactly the same codes when trying to access live.

Keep us updated with Microsofts response.  I really don't want to have to send it back again.

I'm in Australia incase that makes a difference.

earlier on I could not connect to either Xbox live or Xbox.com so just assumed that Xbox live was down.

Just off the phone with the XBL support guy. He tried all sorts of things, including substituting the Xbox's MAC for the MAC of another device on my network. He asked repeatedly if there was any kind of MAC address filtering set on my router (there isn't), but I assume replacing the MAC with a good one was one way of checking I was telling the truth. Regardless, it still won't connect to XBL, and the tech is going to 'check with head office' and call back again.

I have been through exactly the same process, after trying to explain to the poor guy that this would actually make it not work, i did as I was told and et voila, no worky.

Also I forgot to mention that I have a second xbox 360 that works perfectly on my network so it isn't a problem with the network its deffinetly a problem with the box.

I read on the xbox forum that
W: 0000-0021
X: 0000-0000
Y: 00C2-0380  <------------- This can mean there is a value different between the eeprom on the mobo and some other thing.  I can't remember exactly.
Z: 0000-0000

http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=14993

This is the link to the post but remember it is for xbox 1's so may be different.

Getting a bit hacked off with this - no call back from MS, so I called them this morning. At first, they wouldn't even take my call - I pushed all the buttons to get through to XBL support, someone answered the phone and said "go away, we're busy, call back later" and hung up. OK, I'm paraphrasing, but that was the gist of it.

After I'd stopped swearing, I called back. I gave the female who answered the phone the call reference, and asked why they hadn't called back. She got really stroppy and (again, paraphrasing) said "we'll call back when we're ready". I told her the xbox.com forums - as well as others - have plenty of reports of exactly the same problem, swapped-motherboard-and-dvd repairs not connecting to XBL. She said these were "all just rumours"!  blink.gif

I've sent them an email asking for an urgent update, but 8 hours later it's still unanswered. More news as I get it.

Arggghhhh. Still no word from MS. Every time I call them, someone (usually with VERY poor English - have they changed call centres recently) tries to "put me through to a supervisor). I've spent literally an hour and a half listening to awful on-hold music before giving up TWICE, and it's REALLY starting to do my tits in.

Does anyone know of a reliable way to escalate calls with MS's support without having to go through the call centre?
