Can't Stay On Xbox Live For More Than About A Minute
« on: November 02, 2007, 06:00:00 PM »

Hello all,

Im hoping someone can help me with this. I went to visit family. I brought my 360, some ethernet cable. When connected thru the dlink router model 524 firmware v. 4.03.

I lose xbox live connectivity in about 1minute. If I go straight into cable modem no problems.

I have tried different cables. I have tried different settings on router, Dmz, ports, gaming mode, etc. I cant keep the 360 connected to the internet for more then 1 minute. The other pcs on the network arent running any filesharing or downloads. They are just used for email and webrowsing and email. Speedtest.com or .net says the speed coming in is around 1.8mbps. The isp is full channel.

Any answers would be appreciated.

Edit: I have to use the router since other people here want to use the internet at the same time. Even when both pcs are idle it still kicks me after a minute.

have you tested your 360 connection? check your NAT settings.

If your 360 has a manual IP set, make sure it is not conflicting with an existing device on that network.  Also make sure you are in the same subnet as the router  (typically d-link uses the 192.168.0.xxx range, where as others like Linksys use 192.168.1.xxx range)
If all that is good try manually entering a valid ip for dns address, as the router may not be handling dns properly.
Give that a try.

But if the subnet is typed incorrectly then would the xbox even be able to connect to Live? I'm no completely sure (haven't tried it) but I think it would fail the IP test.

Thanks all for help.
Was able to stay online for hours on end after turning Upnp on on the router.
I tried to create a firewall rule exactly the same while Upnp was off as one I saw the 360 make when Upnp was on.
That didnt work so I just left Upnp on while using 360. Hope this helps someone.
