Microsoft has announced Xtival 07, a European-only online event taking place next month.

From November 23 to 26, Gold memberships will be free to everyone with a broadband connection who connects to Xbox Live and signs in.
Microsoft promises a line-up of events, competitions, and exclusive downloads to be announced soon on Xbox.com. The company is also promising "headline acts" for existing Xbox Live Gold members.

FINALLY some privileges for EU. This is the gameplay weekend in the Netherlands btw, I believe that's how the free XBL action started.

I'm confused... Is this just free XBL Gold during those few days? Or is this a free 1 year subscription to XBL Gold?

If it's a free few days, is that really this big of a deal? On the other hand, if it's a free one year subscription, then what about those who already pay for their subscriptions? Maybe a few free themes and gamerpics for those or something?

Either way, it's not a big deal. I'm just curious...

Meh, no big deal. 3 days of gold membership? u can get a voucher for 2 days free with every game u buy nowadays anyway. IMO everyone should be able to play online anyway, paid membership should be for people sho play in ladders leagues or clans. also, gamer pictures and similar paid extras are such a rip, PC gamers have had free online play for so many years now, why are M$ charging people to play games online? it's rediculous.
