Turns out those images of an Xbox 360 with IPTV were legit. In a statement issued by Microsoft, the Redmond-based company acknowledged that the IPTV features "were inadvertently exposed while the customer's console was being serviced and is unrelated to the Fall Update."

The IPTV features, according to the statement, are part of the Microsoft Mediaroom services and will be made available to service providers by the end of this year, adding that it will be up to them to decide when the service is deployed.

I doubt it.

I'm sure it was a well placed mistake to create some viral marketing.

Smart on their part actually

i don't really understand how someone accidently installs a unreleased update onto a repaired xbox360 in the production line.....The guys fixing the xbox360's i wouldnt think would have access to unreleased updates, still in the testing phases.....

I'm willing to bet that a few of them have direct access to a microsoft FTP or fileserver of some kind to download the updates and install them manually.

exactly, you wouldn't accidentally install this onto a box or mobo that you were repairing for a customer...
