I have a Elite with a 79FL drive and a Maximus Passkey 1.1.

Have only used it once and that was an original.

Last evening I attempted to recover my gamertag onto the Elite - started the process and it said something about security update required. Downloaded and installed then it gave an error message saying the gamertag could not be retrieved.

From then on I could not log on Live even while not signed into the profile on the console...  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/unsure.gif) Z status code was 8015-1918.

Tried to call Live support but they had shut for the day.

Last resort was to delete the profile from the HD (only one present) and try the Network tests again. All successful while previously the Live test failed. No idea why an invalid gamer profile on the HD would prevent a log into Live while not logged into the profile.

Recovered gamertag and all ok.

Watch out for this one.
