Corrupted Gamer Tag Between Two 360s
« on: August 21, 2007, 01:04:00 PM »

OK... I bought an elite, and I still have my premium.

I have modded my premium, but never taken it online with the modded firmware. I figure this is the safest setup.

My gamercard shows up fine on the modded xbox, but it I unplug the hard-drive and connect it to the elite it shows up as "Corrupt Profile"... I put it back on the modded xbox and it shows the profile just fine...

Here is the weird part though. I recover my Gamertag on the elite, and it works fine... I take that hard-drive, with the profile and snap it onto my modded 360 and play bioshock for 5 minutes, save my game, transfer the hard-drive back to the unmodded elite, and it says the gamercard is corrupt...

What is going on here? has anyone had this problem?

Some more testing:

Made a brand new profile on the newer unmodded Elite. Transfered it over to the modded system, it shows up fine (I did not sign into it). Transfered it back to the Elite and it still shows up...

Put it back in my modded system and sign into the new profile... Signed out and then transfered it to the elite... Now it is corrupt...

Signing into any profile on the modded system makes it unreadable by the newer unmodded system.

Not sure if this is isolated to my systems, or if this goes for all systems, or if it has to do with newer vs. older systems, or modded vs unmodded, I have no idea.

More testing, Both of the hard-drives I have as well as my memory card result in the same issue... So it is not the memory device that is causing it...

Called MS, of course, not mentioning that one of the systems is modded, and they said it was a know issue, they have an "Open Ticket" on it, and that it should be fixed for the next dash update, which makes me think it is an Elite issue, not a firmware issue...

Also, the new elite does not give a full ring of red when you use it without the A/V cables... Just the middle light.

I thought I was the only one with this issue... I have been doing the same tests as you and have come to the same conclusion... It must be software related to the Elite

I have the same problem on my core system.  I copy my gamertag from the HD to MU to play with on a friends 360, and everytime it shows up as corrupt on his, and them won't work back in mine, either.  If I recover the profile to his machine it works fine, then I copy it back to a MU and take it back to my machine, and it works ok.  His system is a non-modded premium, mine is a modded core.  Seems like the problem is only going from a modded machine to a none modded machine in my case.

Also, has anyone else been having problems recovering profiles from live since the update?  I can't recover mine, keep getting a "live subscription services unavailable" errror after 5 min of attempeted recover.  this is driving me nuts, I can't play untill I can fix my corrupt profile from the above problem!

On mine if you have the HDDVD addon connected to the 360 sometimes you get the corrupt gamer tag.  I just unplug it and it goes back to normal.  Maybe that could be yalls problem.  You didn't specify if you have a HDDVD drive attached.

Delete the corrupted gamer profile before you recover it... Otherwise you get this error. (go to the memory manager, under profiles)...

Also, I do not have the HD-DVD add-on... I wonder if I connect one if it would fix the problem (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

I can assure you that modified DVD firmware is not the cause of your corruption.

I would guess that the box that reads the saves just fine is on a much older kernel. There used to be plenty of achievement/gamesave hacking going on earlier in the 360's life, but after a certain point, MS said it was allowing people to cheat as well (take DOA4 for example), so they updated the kernel to sign gamesaves and require a valid signature on them. Your modded (and offline, so not privy to immediate updates) console, if it's on an older kernel, would be saving the required information, but not signing it, so when your elite (which is probably running the latest kernel) views the data as "unsigned", it returns as "corrupt" (you can verify this by breaking the signature on any hdd content, and subsequently attempting to load it). You can try updating the modded console (you don't have to use the newest kernel; just whichever one they started the gamesave thing, which I think was pre-4552) to see if this eliminates the problem.

Also, the reason an elite won't show 4 red lights when the video cable is unplugged, is because it has an HDMI port, and tmk HDMI ports don't use a monitor ID (just like composite/component/etc). On a normal 360, if there is no cable (ie, no jumpers set), it assumes you cannot have it connected. This makes me wonder if it's possible to run a component signal to one TV, and an HDMI to the other... I might need to test that for fun.

I wish it were that easy. Both Xboxes are using the latest Kernel (2.0.6683)

My "offline" xbox is only offline in the sense that there is never a disc in it when it is on live. I still use it to update my gamer score (as I cant just transfer the profile, because it gets corrupt)... So any time I get a few achievements, before I shut it down, I remove any media, plug in the ethernet cable, and sign onto live for 2 minutes, check whats new in the market place, turn it off and take out the ethernet cable.

Any other theories would be appreciated, HotKnife420

looks like your modded 360 has been blacklisted by m$ for who knows what.

basically this means if you put your somebodys profile on your modded 360 then take it off it will become corupt because m$ included a blacklist inside the latest update.

no idea why you were blacklisted....i dont have any idea why im blacklisted either.

It has been since well before the latest update that this has been going on, and If they wanted to "Blacklist" my console, wouldn't they just ban me. I can still go on live from this console. I really think it is a technical issue.

Oh also, after I had modded my system, I never took it online when it was first happening, I only took it online modded after I realized I could not transfer the profile, out of necessity.

I see this subject hasn't been touched on in a few.  But I am having the same issue except both of my systems are Premium.  One modded & banned/One not,  both running the very latest dashboard/kernal with no HD-DVD drive.

If I recover my gamertag on the non-modded box then it works fine.  If I take it over to the modded box it will work fine.  When I bring the profile back to the non-modded it is corrupt.

It's odd because it didn't start doing this until 5 days ago.  I was able to move back and forth just fine.

I've tried all the tests the previous posts have done and I'm starting to think this is an MS tactic.

I don't have to load a game or anything, just as soon as the modded/banned box loads the profile it is instantly corrupted in that it will not load on any 360 but the modded one.
