somewhere between the end of the ps1's lifecycle and the launch of the ps2 games lost their appeal to me. the games were bland, unentertaining, and lost soul. it wasn't the same type of games i grew up with, not the same challenges, different peers, things were just different. however, the 360 has brought back that appeal. the guy is right, developers shouldn't have to rely on achievements for gamers to play their games but, you know what, 90% of the games suck. that's just all there is to it. and what's the point of having a global gaming system with no competition? competition is what drives us to do better. why does a game developer go to extreme lengths to make a great game, not only because they want to but because they want to be better than the rest. why do i play geometry wars so much? because i want to be able to compete at the top. this man is confused about what a game is and why people play, that is why he doesn't like achievements.
