Possible Solution To Bans
« on: May 18, 2007, 11:52:00 AM »

from a post on 360mods.net

I THINK I HAVE AN IDEA!!! Whether it will work or not is a different matter...

If you DE-SOLDER the EEPROM chip on your 360 motherboard your console should still work fine and should work online too. The Eeprom chip itself stores the Dash and other "Upgradeable" pieces of 360 Software so if we de-solder that it could possibly stop the update from working and therefore being banned?

Sectors
1 copyright notice, zeros, unencrypted numbers
2 encrypted data
@2MB filesystem, unencrypted, but content encrypted, config not

These sectors could be the numbers that appear when you are banned the error numbers, so by removing this chip it could POSSIBLY send the numbers back to their original status and therefore stopping you being banned from LIVE.

If someone could try this out on a banned console and see if it works it would be much appreciated!!!

Heres a link to what the eeprom chip looks like and more info: http://www.xbox-scene.com/xbox1data/sep/EE...puuTdYzDcXf.php

Opened mine up and no Eeprom chip...so I can't test this theory.

Purchased in Feb 2006.

So has any who does not have an EEPROM chip been baned?  Is it possible what ever MS is using to detect us is related to there being an EEPROM?

99% sure I read in the last 10 or so paged (35 - 45) of the big thread of a core system or system without eeprom being banned..

Not going to hunt it but I fairly sure I read it in there..

You guys do realize that Live doesn't let you connect unless you have the latest update, right?

Doesn't the EEPROM also contain information sets for the system to actually run? Sure you won't get banned from XBL, but de-sodering the EEPROM could render the system unplayable.

Kinda reminds me of when my friend a long time ago tried to convince me that by coloring the bottom of a CD with black marker, you could "mask" the copy protection from the disc XD

Is it true that the newer 360's (with samsung ms25 & ms28) don't have this chip installed?

I think I read that somewhere..
