Xbox LIVE: Credit card removal still proving difficult

Why is it, that on a subject so sensitive, do Microsoft make it nigh-on impossible to remove your card details if the need arises?

Upon ringing a few days later, Jmel finds that, in actual fact, support say no, the card cannot be removed. A few supervisors later and they apparently say the card will be removed within 7-10 business days. However given that the staff on the end of the phone were so uncertain, it is unlikely that it will ever happen.

Due to uncertainty, Jmel decided to lodge a complaint with TRUSTe (who are ironically sponsored by Microsoft).
It seems that the complaint has at last been taken seriously enough for an official complaint to go through to Microsoft. Whether or not MS act upon this is a different matter, but at least the problem has been brought to their attention.

The CC can be removed, most of the MS reps are retards.

So what's the sense of making a complaint to TRUSTe, on something that's possible? Just because a few of the regular reps were unsure? Even though he was assured that it would happen in a couple weeks.

It's like having a hassle with a cashier at the grocery store about a particular product coming up on the register at the wrong price, to later, have items price to be corrected by the manager of the store, then complaining to the BBB because you were getting riped off for two minutes.

People have no patients now days.

even if it is possible you should still be able to remove it from live without having to even call in.

Well I dont know if im the only one who has experienced this but apparently burried somewhere in the Xbox Live user agreement you are allowing MS to automatically bill your credit card after you purchase a 1 month card and it expires. I experienced this problem after I was in the midst of closing an bank account associated with my xbox live account and since there was no money in the account I also had the pleasure of paying a NSF fee to my bank as well. Figure they only have to do this to even 350,000 people and they just stole $2,450,000. yeah thats a lot of money almost 2 and a half million dollars. and MS has well over 350,000 subscribers, I believe somewheres between 6-7 million. I dont think thats the main reason why MS does this but its definitly one of them. Oh well lesson learned.

yea i had this same problem. i wanted to trade accounts with people and i didnt want them to use my card info so i tried to ring them up to cancel the card and the person on the other end said the only way was if they cancelled my xbox live account!

so then i went to xbox.com and changed all the details on the card- i changed the name to micky mouse and the adress to number 22 the moon and just messed it all up and it still let me purchase points with it. its a joke.

so in the end i changed the expiry date to the next month then just waited for the month to go over and finnaly it became unusable

It can be removed, but its not as easy a process as it should be.

I had a second Live account that I created on the original Xbox. Its renewal day is today.
About a month ago I asked on the official Xbox forum as to a way to remove the credit card from the account but got nowhere. Fortunately a friend of mine who is also a Moderator put me intouch with a support staff member (they have an 'S' for their communitiy level). They were able to remove the credit card from the account and the account should now become silver at the end of the month.

Funny this should come up.

After realising the card associated with my Xbox Live account was now deprecated, I added another, as I could find no way to remove the original.  Quite annoying, and definately worrying, as I am unsure of when and if they are going to charge the account (as it is still active, though I no longer pay any of the bills for it as I don't use it!)

Going to ring Microsoft in the morning, hopefully they'll give some slack for a fellow employee...

Knowing Microsoft, probably not.

this was a post of mine on digg.com

QUOTE
aahpandasrun mentioned Xbox Live gold monthly being a pain... but let me tell you a story about Xbox Live gold for a year and a mom buying it for her high school aged son for his birthday.

A co-worker of mine had me come over and help her with getting her sons 360 connected to their network and on Live. Everything went fine until we got to the credit card. We got the American Express card entered and charged the $50 okay. Informing her that her son could buy anything from the marketplace with her credit card she decided it was a good idea to delete the card from the profile. We struggled for about an hour trying to get the card removed or at the very least password protecting the ability to charge stuff via the parental controls. We gave up and called Xbox Live support.

The customer service lady informed me that we are not able to remove any billing information off of the Xbox Live profile once it's entered. So I questioned her that in twenty years I could potentially have multiple dead credit cards listed on my own profile every time I get a new numbered issued to me when the old one expires? Her answer was yes. So what has happened, and what the Live customer service rep is telling me is that her son now has access to her credit card to buy anything from the Live marketplace... and there is no way to get rid of that. Her solution was to create a new gamertag and purchase the Live service via a Xbox Live card at Wal-Mart or some other local store (she did offer a refund to the American Express). I said that's not feasible with all the time, game saves, gamer points, and friends tied to this profile. He had friends built up because he used his Xbox Live silver membership (and free one month gold membership) at his other parents house (they are divorced) that he had his 360 set up on. She actually said something like "Oh, he's young and probably wouldn't mind playing all those games again". I said, "That's a pretty general thing to say isn't it? How do you know he didn't rent the games, sell them on eBay, or borrow them from friends? And why would someone want to play a lot of these games over again that have no single player replay value?"

When the customer service rep suggested using the four keypress passcode to block Live access we told her that we have tried that and it's not going to work. When she went ahead and told us that it would solve the problem we said no, the child here is 17, not 7... we're not concerned with him getting on Xbox Live whenever he wants, we just don't want him to have access to the credit card now tied to his profile for life. This is a kid who will be going off to college in about a year and will most likely have roomates that would easily be able to charge stuff to this card using his profile (very bad and very insecure).

I asked multiple times to speak to another service rep or a manager. Each time I asked she would put me on hold for five minutes or so and come back and say no one else is available.

Finally, we decided to take the $50 refund and buy a one year membership from our local Wal-Mart (for $60) and use that. However, that did nothing for her credit card info still being listed in his profile. Sadly, she had to call American Express the next day and cancel the card and have a new one issued to her. When she explained the situation to Amercian Express they were flabbergasted and glad she called to cancel.

Now that's a pain in the @#%$*!!!
