Cable is much better, but DSL should be fine.

don't they advertise it specifically for gaming? if so then you could always complain if it doesnt hold up to it's name!

Sometimes cable is better. Generally cable is offered at higher speeds. If you can get faster DSL go with the DSL. Also because cable is a shared connection and DSL is a dedicated line if you are in a high population area like a crowded neighborhood or apartment complex, cable could be slower during peak times even if it is advertised as faster.

To answer the OP, Cable is usually better, but DSL should be sufficient as long as you get at least 1Mbps or so. I play on 1.5Mbps DSL and it works great.

I've had both and Cable blows DSL away, I'm going by experience not by hearsay.

You conveniently left out the fact that if you are far from the DSL hub you will have horrible connections and speeds and the fact that you have to put unscramblers on your phones or else they run like crap.

Thanks for the reply's. I'm dumping my wireless DSL for cable at the end of the moth. I'll just go with cable this way i can always have tv to if directv goes out.

Just thought I'd throw this in because I thought it was interesting.
I have qwest DSL and get 330KB/s DL (speed test from broadband.com) where as my friend Nate who lives 15 minutes away has cox high speed (Cable) and gets a speed of 315KB/s (same speed test).
Blows me away since my qwest DSL comes throgh the phone cord.

330 > 315 doesnt matter where it comes from.

Both are fine for gaming. DSL is more consistent.

On a side note Verizon sucks, I will never use them again. If there are only 2 options Verizon and something else. Go with the something else. Every time. So all in all good move getting away from Verizon.

im on 8 meg DSL (7.6 meg pops up with on my pc screen) and not once had any trouble, maxed my connection at 725kbps last night

I have AT&T DSL my bandwisth is 5761kbps downstream and 950kbps upstream. i havent had a problem yet. my buddy likes his DSL over Cable (RoadRunner) anyday.

Yeah, DSL is fine. I used to have cable, but then I moved and wasn't in an area that offered that. So I went with DSL. No problems yet. No difference what so ever.
