who is your ISP? and have you tried rebooting the modem/isp device, then turning on the xbox 360? smile.gif

Xbox live is down here as well, same error status as you, isp is orange.

The reason your 360 has a totally different address than your laptop is because your ISP is only giving you one address that will work online. This limits you to one device being online at a time. You should be able to turn off your computer and use the same settings to get your 360 online. Really you need to work things out with your ISP.

P.S. Your 360 has a 169.254.x.x address because that is the range that is used for Automatic Private IP Adressing to configure devices if they do not receive an address automatically and one is not set manually. A 169.254.x.x address is private and won't work on the internet.

so if i purchase a router will that automaticlly assign the 360 a private IP address so i can get on live as well as the lap top being on line?

p.s do u recommend a type of router?

Yes a router will fix your problems, you may have to use mac spoofing, but that is pretty easy.  I recommend a buffalo whr-hp-g54s.
