The Question Is.... Is It Really Worth It?
« on: October 13, 2006, 09:04:00 PM »

I just got my xbox 360 two days ago and didn't want to change the firmware of my DVD-rom b/c I thought I would give xboxlive a try and see what the hype is about.  Honestly, I don't know if it's really worth not modding my xbox 360 over.  Takes awhile to get into games... and just.... not feelin the hype.  I've played Saints Row & GRAW on live so far; does it get better?

What do you guys think out there?

Live is worth it.  What you need to do is play a good game on live.  Get a good list of friends and you will find games faster and start them quicker

The sports games you listed are fun, but I must stress finding people that you enjoy playing with and adding them to your friends list.  Perhaps join an online league.  Sports games are hampered by cheese play.  (Unless you like that, in which case nevermind)  So finding people you regulary play with is a whole lot more fun than playing random people

The games currently available for the 360 have xbox live added as an afterthought. The interface is terrible and you can tell that they slopped everything together at the last minute. The best example of this is that the entire game ends if the host drops out of Ghost Recon.

I agreed with you upto this point, then i saw your thing about halo 2 and lost all respect for you.

Original Poster, DO NOT judge XBL based on either GRAW or saints row. Saints row is laggy online (and we're waiting for volition to fix it). GRAW is fun but only with the right people. If you're a n00b and you jump into a sharpshooter room, expect to get raped. I'm not going to sugar coat it.

Play co-op missions online with people first. When you find people you like, play sharpshooter, LMS or siege (or even solo!) with them.

My advice to you? Pick up burnout revenge and play some of that online. It's fun as hell. Or even rent out a few games & check out what they're like online. You get 1 month of free gold XBL so you may as well use it.

I love XBL. I've met some awesome people on the service and made some real good friends. Give it a try.

The best example of this is that the entire game ends if the host drops out of Ghost Recon. Now that I think of it, every game on live is terrible with the exception of Halo 2. So, if you don't own Halo 2 I suggest doing one of the folloowing : 1. Buy Halo2, or 2. Throw your 360 out the window because it is useless.

Thanks for your opinion. Since the 360 runs Halo2 through emulating the xbox, even if someone were to take your extremely flawed advice, they would see how stupid it is since they can buy a much cheaper piece of hardware and have the game run BETTER than if they spent the money on a 360. Normally you cannot tell someone their opinion is wrong, but in the quoted statement it is wrong. Also, it's not like Halo2 isn't flawed. People cheat and deRank and won't play unless they are host. You have ultra young kids using swear words for the first time so no matter what they curse at you. There is so much wrong with halo2's live it's not funny. I won't play on live anymore since team swat is now ranked.

At any rate, try playing a game that actually takes skill. Go play Halo CE. Play some of these 360 games and get dominated. Don't stick with Halo2 and run for the power weapons before the other team and get them.

I tend to disagree with the take that he didn't play any good games on Live.  GRAW is a fantastic game on xbox live.  If you have some friends to buddy up with it is a blast.  Other games that you will never think about are great on live.  Uno is one of the more addictive games and Texas holdem is pretty good too.

I was just saying there are some hidden gems out there.  Uno is pretty fun when you want to just sit down and kill about 15 minutes......problem is the 15 minutes stretches in to 30+.  That and Texas hold'em are two games that I find myself always saying.....ahh... I'll play 1 more hand (about 5 times).

I am not going to say that it is better than Halo2 it is just that there are things out there like Uno that you wouldn't expect to like and the live market will let you download those games and give them a try.  If you have a problem with that bitch lets solve it on the uno table!!!!

As far as Ghost Recon goes I usually play it with about 5 friends and we do the missions.  I haven't explored too much with competitive ranked matches.
