Im guessing some incarnation of IE, or somthing to do with zune or possibly microsofts own video sharing software to be used with the cam.

Im convinced it will not be to do with the firmware and more to do with combatting the ps3 and giving people an extra reason to get live. MS`s minds i would like to think are on bigger things at the moment, such as sony.

I hope your right. Something at the back of my mind is telling me that unsigned drives (the early ones, someone confirm please) will be ok.
How many users of live % wise do you think are using modded firmware? Surely it cant be that high anyway.

Yeah I agree totally.

Their strategy is to get as many ppl as possible to buy Xbox360s and signon to Live. It's all about grabbing market share from Sony at the moment....especially here in Europe where the PS3 is delayed! It would be counterproductive for M$ to ban the minority of modders as it would mean diverting precious effort and resources to write the code for this. Also, think about all the extra accessories etc modders will buy for their 360, plus the HD DVD drive is out soon as well.

Call me an Optimist, but I think M$ will (and have been) turning a blind eye to it all.

people stop crying..

they won't brick your drive cause it aint illegal to play backup's, ms doesnt know if you own also the original game.

however they will maybe ban us from xbox-live depends how much information they have about hacked 360's.

but that was your own choice, we all know that is was illegal to flash our firmware so if they gonna ban us just take your loss and stop crying.

M$ options depend on what they can do technically. If they can get a game or update to check the dvd firmware for one common element that isnt in any of the modified firmwares then they can simply flick up a message to say game not playable or live not available until firmware is returned to M$ standard. They would probably even offer to repair the drive for people ensuring more $$.

From M$ point of view their ideal situation would be to force everyone to have to return their drives to stock state to be able to play new games and connect to live.

Eh men.

I would have to agree that if m$ was smart then they would not ban anyone but temp stop them from using xbox-live until they put there firmware to stock.  But then again there are those who will put it to stock to play on live and then change it back to play backups.  I can see many pirates doing this.  Also is it really illegal to modify the firmware.  I bought the system so couldnt I do anything I want to do to it. Xbox live is the only thing they can stop you from I think?

To everyone who keeps saying to stop crying, Whats your problem? Nobody is bitching here just trying to have a conversation about this surprise update.
If you dont have a modded drive then why are you posting in here?
If you do then surely this concerns you a little?
I will cry if I get banned and I dont care *sniff*

With it only taking a few minutes to flash, why not just flash back to stock when you want on to live, and mod when you wanna play your backed up games?

Because who's to say they don't do any checks off-line when you are playing your backed up game.

I have a problem because every time Microsoft does anything we get the same thread and the same conversation.  and in my honest opinion, the thread is completely pointless because the whole discussion is speculation.  The other problem is that some people are completely out of touch with what they are doing and do not realize the consequences.  There is a very large real risk, that just to play a backup of a game you own (taking piracy out of the equation because we all know that is wrong),  you may cripple (brick, lose access to live, lose access to future offline games, lose access to any MS warranty) your system and need to buy a replacement.
