Dns Test Failed
« on: August 05, 2006, 09:10:00 AM »

Well, I set it up so that it's connected to my computer and my computer is connected to the internet via a wireless lan PCI card. Took me a while to figure out how to get past the IP test!

Finally I did, only to be humiliatingly stalled by the DNS error, I've tried the wireless modems IP, my PC's IP on the xbox network (my PC has a different IP for the wireless network) and my ISP's DNS server addresses. All result in the increasingly agitating DNS error!

Help me oh wise ones of Xbox-Scene!  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)

First, don't double post.

Second, we need more info.  What is the ip address of your computer (both the wireless pci card and the connection to the 360)  What is the ip address of your 360?

First, don't double post.

Sorry, international link on my ISP is crap at the moment, causing lag etc resulting in the double post.

Wireless IP of my PC : 192.168.0.6 (Autmatic, assigned by the wireless modems DHCP)
LAN IP of my PC : 169.254.72.59 (Automatic)
Xbox 360 IP : 169.254.72.60 (Manual, automatic sets it as 169.254.29.217)

Ok, theres your problem.

Set your lan IP on your PC to 192.168.1.1
Set your xbox 360 ip to 192.168.1.2
DNS should be 192.168.1.1 on your 360

Make sure that you can ping your 360 from your pc

EDIT:

On a side note, the 169 ip address is an automatically given ip adress when there is not ip address given.  It doesn't work and is just to let you know that its wrong

Windows Firewall, it was off for everything but the wireless connection which goes to the wireless modem. Although I don't see how if it was on for the wireless how it could affect the LAN.
