alright, ive had this problem since i got my 360 but now that sf2 is out its been really bugging me... ive only really played halo2, cod2, pgr3 (like once) and various arcade games on live... halo and cod are reported as buggy by lots so i wasnt too concerned of those, but my service has always been pretty bad... laggy and dropped connections for no reason what so ever during games... i can always get on live, dl stuff at great speeds, get in lobbies and all that perfectly well but once the game starts it fucks up and i get kicked...

could there be a port forwarding fix? what ports does live run through?

Open up 3074 and 88.  I think thats the only 2 live uses
