Disconnected - Xbox Live

Hello all,

I tried to connect to Live a few days ago and could not. I ran the media tests with the network cable attached and I get DISCONNECTED. I verified the network cable to be good as I connected it another PC I have. Also, I tried using a wireless adapter to connect; same thing, DISCONNECTED.

Could my ethernet port on the xbox be damaged??
Could it be "disabled" somehow?

The system has original firmware.

Thanks
BigK

If you're sure your cable is good, the next thing to check is that the devices on both ends are turned on and that you have link lights showing that you have the correct cable orientation either patch or crossover. Once you're sure you have physical connectivity you make sure you have your network settings set up properly. These are all simple troubleshooting steps.

Hi, thanks for the reply

On my router, I do not have a link light. I also tried connecting directly to my modem and still shows disconnected. I have tried 2 different network cables.

Well then there's your problem. You're using the wrong cable for your application. You're probably using a crossover when you should be using a patch cable. It's either that or the cable is inappropriate for your appliaction or your cable is bad.

I suggest configuring all your Xbox Live Settings Manually, and checking your NAT rules, and ports. To me it doesn't sound like its the cable, it sounds like a problem with the direct connection between the router and your console. Make sure your router security is working fine and not closing your connection.

What router are you using?
