Xbox Live scheduled downtime on June 27th *Confirmed*
Posted by XanTium | June 26 12:32 EST

From xboxic.com:
Quote
Xbox Live will be unavailable on June 27th from 02:00 'til 06:00 PDT, according to the official PlayOnline site. Major Nelson is MIA at the moment and by the looks of it there's no official word from Microsoft so we'll just have to wait until the Major gets back from his trip to Cali.

At the following time Microsoft will be performing maintenance on the Xbox Live service.
For more information please see the Xbox Live official homepage (http://www.xbox.com/live).
The PlayOnline Viewer will be unavailable to Xbox 360 users during this time. Players already logged into Playonline will be able to continue to use PlayOnline services. However once logged out, PlayOnline will not be accessible until the maintenance period is over.
We apologize for the inconvenience.

*Update* Scheduled Downtime is confirmed by Major Nelson:
Quote

On Tuesday June 27th from 0200-0600 PT Xbox Live will be offline for maintenance. As a result, the 'My Xbox' section of Xbox.com will be unavailable, and the Xbox forums will be in read only mode (you won't be able to post.) The remainder of Xbox.com will be available.
Click this link to find out what time the maintenance will begin in your time zone

This is for maintenance, there are no new features that will appear when the service comes back online. This is all for server maintenance...nothing more, nothing less.

Maintenence and outages are not uncommon in the world of online services. Perhaps they are expanding the service and adding more servers, more bandwidth on their end.

News Posts like this are somewhat pointless because it all leads to speculation. Hell, I even fell into the trap and offered my own 2 cents.

I agree with the poster that its probably nothing more than routine maintenance/expansion of servers etc

Why would you want it to be effected? What's wrong with playing backups on live if you own the original game?

Yes everyone who plays backups actually go out and buy the original because we are all such moral individuals. Many people are downloading games from the torrent sites then they go out and buy the orginal after trying it out.

well i think that a bunch of angry leprechauns broke into the live server room and started an underground cocain ring, so they have to shut down live while they get them out....but thats just my 2 cents

I also agree with tgm4883 who agrees with sinister slipknot who agrees with chancer who agrees with the poster, that it is simply for routine maintenence....BTW i didnt post just to sound like a crazed (and somewhat bored) jackass (no offense intended), maintenence was confirmed by Majornelson a little while ago according to his blog. I think i can handle that news that live's not gonna be available in the northeast usa from like 5am for a few hours, I think ill do that thing most college kids do around that time, go to bed or continue sleeping

Usually expanding or maintenance would not involve taking down system completely (they would usually have Redundancy) usually it would get taken down only if they were changing something

Thanks
