I doubt MS would brick everyone's 360 for the same reason Windows XP still works on most of our PCs.

NO Bricks!!  Just IP / Serial Bans!

All they're going to do is include a fix to prevent the firmware hack from running, and probably ban anyone from Live that is running it - and if you're signed into Live with an active fw hack, well, then you probably deserve to be banned for being so  uhh.gif

I seriously doubt we will see bricked consoles. They didn't do that with Xbox1, so why do it now? It could be a legal nightmare, especially given the interesting laws in other countries (non-USA)...

If they do brick you, a flash back to OEM firmware should fix it. If it didn't, again, can-o-worms.

I'm actually, personally, tired of speculating. Let's just wait and see what happens... ugh...  uhh.gif

One thing that needs fixing but doesnt look addressed(at least it wasn't shown) was how the 360 auto-stretches 4:3 content on DVD's to 16:9. Some people may not mind it, but it would be nice to be able to choose. Also, it is downright rediculous that a machine as powerful as the 360 does not upconvert DVD's to 720p.

Yeah i don't see them bricking the console either. They could have the console not boot up with the hacked firmware in place like "FreshOuttaMaps" said. Then all you have to do is restore the original firmware and you're good to go again. If you go on Live with the hacked firmware then it's your fault if you get banned, plain and simple..

MS owns the code in the console. It is ILLEGAL to tamper with, reverse engineer, and modify that code. If you do so and the console does not boot, regardless if it's from a firmware update or not, then it's your own fault for tampering with it. Read the legal disclaimers that come with your Xbox 360.

I would love to see a bunch of bricked consoles.

Windows XP runs even when MS knows its pirated because the end user might not have been aware. (ie. a local pc shop might have pirated Windows onto your PC without your knowledge)

You purchase your Xbox 360 and you agree to the terms of service when you do your initial set-up. Read through the TOS and show me where it doesn't say that MS cannot take appropriate action against pirates and hackers up to and including discontuning usage of their software.

The update sounds sick. Except for maybe pooping on us about firmware hacks and what not. Whens it supposed to arrive?

You said it yourself... discontinuing use of their software... sure MS can make new games not work if they detect hacked FW but to actually damage/disable the whole system based on it would get hairy.  Legally it migt even hold up, but don't underestimate the uproar it would bring along with it when dozens of moms and dads screem bloody murder that their $400 investment stopped working.  They don't care why, as far as they are concerned if you don't want it to be modded don't make it possible.  Right or wrong that is the kind of bad PR that can ruin a companies chances with a product.
