well did you use a PATCH or CROSS-OVER cable?  Enable ICS on the wireless connection and set the LAN port to a static IP address like this:

IP: 192.168.0.1
sub: 255.255.255.0
Gateway : 192.168.0.1

then setup PRIMARY DNS to 192.168.0.1

on the xbox setup like this

IP: 192.168.0.2
SUB: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 192.168.0.1

DNS: 192.168.0.1

Its always best to setup the xbox manual config because then you know what might be wrong, the auto setup seems a bit glitchy at times

make sure your laptop can connect to the web before trying the xbox. just re-look over your settings to get that working ICS sometimes changes the ip / DNS settings wen you enable it.

Hope this helps this is the EXACT setup i had before going completly wireless (router ECT) so it should work
