Report: Swearing in Online Games-- Posted by XanTium on February 17 17:33 EST
From next-gen.biz:

Quote

An online games player has conducted a limited study into swearing on Xbox Live.
In a period of about 30 hours of play on Xbox Live, blogger Josh Smith heard cussing, an average 20 times an hour; once every three minutes. The word 'fuck' was the most common swearword, rating 8.11 uses per hour.
Highly offensive racist, homophobic and sexist language also featured prominently.

A friend and I were playing over Xbox Live and my friend got called a "Chinese Nigger."  To this day, I still get a laugh that someone actually thought that this was a valid insult.

I have to say who cares? I don't want to start censoring my self. If you swear during a game so what? thats life, If you don't like it too bad. Living in Utah, if I so much as say "hell" instead of "heck" it's met with atleast the three or four people telling me to watch my language, so of course I kindly tell them to kiss my ass. I can't see what the big deal is, no matter your word choice the ideas are still represented.

Wow, I read this article like 2 weeks ago.  blink.gif

I think it's just sad how people swear so much. I hate it.

Unless the game requires teamwork, I keep my headset on mute. Most of the time, I don't even wear it because it's annoying, and the cord always likes to knot itself.

The swearing doesn't bother me. When someone starts swearing angrily, that's usually an indication that they're messing up. While they're fighting about whose mom's a whore, I take advantage of it.

I'm not trying to steer this topic into the gutter, but would that be shortened to "Chigger?"

One of the reasons why I have never had a headset or Xbox Live for either of my Xboxs. To many stupid kids on Live thinking there cool by swearing all the while. Heck if I had a mic I'd probably end up doing it so I never got one. I wish people on Live would just say good shot or nice try and just be all round nice, but of course we don't live in a perfect world.

This is why Micro$oft should have an Adult version of LIVE and a PG-13 and under version LIVE, I'd hoped for more this time around,  dry.gif  but I guess this would be just too difficult to implement for big ole M$ [sarcasm\] This alone is the reason I only subscribed to the original LIVE for 1 year then opted out in favor of KAI, although there's cheaters on KAI, it seems the user base was much more mature, and funner to play with / against on KAI.. Just my $0.02. ... .. MN MOD MAN 06'
