Help, Stict Nat With Ports Forwarded Already!
« on: December 23, 2005, 05:19:00 PM »

(IMG:http://www.freewebs.com/mxpx_bea/net%20setup.JPG)

Huge image, but it saved me the time of trying to explain everything to you.  I have other PCs on the network, as well as my original Xbox, but I'm not too concerned with those right now and don't think they would affect the 360.

Well I read up on how to fix the NAT to be open, which involves forwarding UDP ports 3074 and 88 to the Xbox's IP address.  This isn't so easy though, because the way my network is set up.  When sharing my connection from my wireless PCI card to my ethernet, the ethernet has to take a different IP range (192.168.0.xxx instead of 192.168.1.xxx) so that my computer knows which connection to use when accessing the internet.  But since my 360 isn't in the 192.168.1.xxx range, my router won't let me forward the ports to my Xbox's IP address, so I instead forwarded them to the wireless PCI card's address.  This didn't fix my strict NAT though.

Any suggestions? What I might be doing wrong?

you need to right click on your wireless network connection go properties, click advanced, settings,  add the xbox live ports here.  I think the real critical port is 3074 udp as this is the only one that my upnp router opens up for xbox live.

thanks for the suggestion, i tried it out, but still strict.  anything else?

edit:  i realized that this suggestion was for windows firewall, i have that disabled and i use norton internet security, with those ports already opened and still strict NAT.  i think i'm doomed to forever live with perfect dark zero connection failures (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)

I get the same problem forwarding the same ports with my router.  Have you upgraded your router with the latest firmware?  It is a hassle, but it may fix that Strict problem you're getting (if you haven't upgraded already).  I haven't tried it yet myself, but was told by a Netgear rep to do so.  I'm just lazy to set up my home network again after the upgrade!  Let me know how it goes if you choose this option.

actually i tried that before i even made this topic.  it made it open for about a day and then right back to strict.  now i'm having problems with nintendo wifi connection.

F@#$ ONLINE GAMING!!!

ok, i said it, and i apologize, and now i want to make friends with it again.

i think the only other thing i haven't tried is marching down to my isp with an axe and taking their heads for the injustice they have done.  not that its their fault, its probably my network, but nonetheless... i need skulls.
