Nat = Moderate
« on: December 19, 2005, 04:18:00 PM »

Hi all, strange problem. I have setup port forwarding for 88 and 3074, just like u had to on the old xbox live. The status has gone from strict to moderate. This still wont allow me to join games on PGR3 with the error "Unable to connect to some players".

I would rather not have to use UPNP if possible cus i dont trust it all that much. Any ideas? The router is a Linksys. Could it be that ICMP is disabled on my router? It still seems to pass the test though.

thanx.

Bit of an old post but I found it in google and will reply incase anyone else has problems

I have a WAG354G with upnp on - I was getting errors in live - pgr3 - regarding not able to communicate to all players, I changed the settings to manual IP so I could port forward without ever suffering the 360 having an ip change, and I noticed I had a Strict NAT with the live test.

I had never tested this before now.

I opened manually 3074 and 88 (both TCP and UDP) - got moderate connection

found a list of ports of live - opened the game service port - 22042 (TCP) and now im status clear

Been having exactly same issue. hosted game 10 players no issues.

Try and conntect to friend and we both just get cannot join game when hosting joining, can see each other on xbl.

Being lazy I just set the xBox to always use same IP via 'static routes' on netgear DG834PN and then set the 360 to be the DMZ - initial tests suggest this works a treat (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)

just a tip if you are using DMZ or UPNP or port forwarding to get your nat open, dont use them all together just use one of emm,you may get conflicts withen the router i use DMZ (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Thank you Ezzzy!  That was my problem exactly.  I had been running fine with my nat showing open but after the September 10 update it went to moderate for reasons unknown to me.  I really don't see the relevance with the update so it was probably just a coincidence.  I hadn't changed any settings in my router (WRT54G).  I did however notice after reading your post that I had UPNP, Port forwarding, and dmz all turned on.  I turned off everything but the DMZ and I was back to an open NAT.  Thanks! Used all three of these ports correctly as stated above and it goes in to the clear status for me as well. Wanted to throw that in because I'm sure though this is an old post, people like myself have just how been looking for the answer, this *above* is the cure for that definitively, DMZ in my opinion is never a definitive fix.

Cheers.

If you have a linksys router, heres what you can do..

Login to your router and look for something that says DMZ Host. It might be under a tab called advanced, so look there too. Once found, you should see a box that has "192.168.1.__". Now turn on your 360 and go to the dashboard. Go to the very right tab on the dashboard and hit network settings, then hit test network settings. Now once its through back out, and go to edit settings. Under where it says "automatic" you should see an ip address. Enter the last three digits into the missing spot on your computer on the DMZ Host page, then hit apply. Let your router restart, and then test your connection. Your NAT should now be open... and also for anyone with a netgear router just enable UPNP, which should fix it. If anyone needs help with this pm me
