what i did was just turn on my xbox 360 and went through the gamertag recovery process, and now it works with the original xbox also, my niece who didnt have an account made one on the 360, but was not able to use it on the original xbox.

so they charge you 10.00 bucks huh, i went throught the 360 dashboard to swap tags to my very first tag i ever had but it said it was already in use so i left it as was, i ported my live tag from xbox to 360, there is an option to change your tag but as i said i havent went to far into the process

just recover your account to the 360 and then try to change your tag since there is an option to do so instead of canceling and recreating and all all that, if it doesnt work then at least you can use your tag on the 360 in the time being ontop of the original xbox since you say your gonna set up a silver account first
