Xbox 360 Networking Trouble Halp Please
« on: November 23, 2005, 03:07:00 AM »

I own a Linksys WRT54GX router, and cannot for the life of me connect to actually play games on Live.

I tried doing a DMZ and upgrading to the latest firmware, and I am plugged directly into the router as well, so I am not using the wireless function.

I also have NAT enabled, should that be on?

Does anyone else have this router(Linksys WRT54GX) that could maybe tell me how they set it all up?

 :(

I am having a similar problem... I think.  I have the WRT54G, and am using the M$ wireless adapter.  I can connect to my network with the box, but when I try to join Live, it says I need to install an update.  After saying yes, allowing it to update, it starts the update, and fails.  Did you have an issue like this?  If so, how did you fix the problem?

I'm going to call Linksys and see if they can help me out. I'll post the results here.

NO NEED TO WORRY MEN!

I have solved this problem!!! I to have a WRT54GX2 router!
the problem is the NAT (Net somethign that starts with an A Translation) is set to strict, now I was on the phone with linksys for about an hour and they did NOTHING to help me. told me it was M$ problem and what do you think M$ said? its Linksys problem.... so when this happens it becomes MY problem lol well this is what I did....

Step 1. I am going to assume that everyone knows how to get to their router settings well go there.....

Step 2.  Go to the security tab, you can leave your firewall enabled but uncheck and disable everything else.
that is for all you spefic ppl out there UNcheck "ping WAN" DISable PPTP, IPSec, and L2TP pass throughs

Step 3. Go to the adminstartion tab and ENable UPnP and Multicast pass through

Step 4. GO GAME

(some notes)
As I have now made the NAT "OPEN" (which m$ recomends you have) I am still unable to join SOME games mainly games with more then 10 people in it to start but am able to join a game then it can fill. I think the rest of our probs are with M$ and thier servers so we need to wait a week or so. hopfully some find this useful so my advice DON'T CALL M$ OR LINKSYS cause they sure as hell don't know a thing about eachother. I wish you all the best of luck

I'd like to personally thank balistic2 for his advice.  I had a similar problem with my Netgear router, which incidentally is XBL compatible though it refused to work constantly referring to the NAT as strict.  I think this is further proof that when you need technical assistance you should come here and forego the two hour long phone call to MS.  So thank you for keeping my sanity relatively intact and insuring the life of my 360 as it was about to take a very short trip out the window.

Thanks again,

Jerek

Has there been any update in getting the 360 to work with this router? I have tried everything suggested and it still does not work.
